Job Title: CNC Machinist / Programmer Job Description

This role combines hands-on CNC machining with programming responsibilities to support the design and manufacture of custom equipment for demanding applications in law enforcement, military, and maritime environments. You will create and refine prototype and production parts, develop CNC programs, and maintain both CNC and manual machinery to ensure safe, innovative, and reliable products.

• Operate CNC and manual machines to manufacture and repair prototype and production parts and assemblies.
• Create CNC programs manually and using CAMWorks software to support efficient and accurate machining operations.
• Set up and create fixtures for fabrication and assembly to ensure repeatable and precise manufacturing processes.
• Assemble fabricated components into complete parts and assemblies according to engineering specifications.
• Train and supervise machine operators to ensure proper machine use, part quality, and adherence to procedures.
• Collaborate closely with engineers to develop, prototype, and test various parts and assemblies.
• Work with production teams to ensure proper integration of parts and assemblies into finished products.
• Inspect prototype and production parts and assemblies using appropriate measuring and test equipment.
• Perform repair and preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment, including CNC and manual machines and tooling.
• Maintain tool inventory and ensure tools are available, organized, and in good working condition.
• Interpret detail and manufacturing drawings and schematics to produce accurate parts.
• Participate in design meetings with mechanical design engineers to provide manufacturing input and feedback.
• Use 3D CAD and CAM software to support design, programming, and machining activities.
• Work on complex projects both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
• Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve machining, programming, and production issues.

• Successful completion of an apprenticeship or other formal training program in CNC machine operation.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a machinist, CNC machinist, or CNC programmer.
• Extensive knowledge of CNC and manual machine shop tools, including lathes and mills, and their operation.
• Ability to interpret detail and manufacturing drawings and schematics accurately.
• Proficiency in using industry-standard measuring and test equipment for inspection and quality control.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on machining and fabrication experience.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD and CAM software for programming and supporting machining operations.
• Experience creating CNC programs manually and using CAMWorks or similar CAM software.
• Familiarity with programming and operation of multi-axis CNC machines.
• Ability to work with mechanical design engineers and participate in design and review meetings.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applied to machining, programming, and production challenges.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for documentation, reporting, and communication.
• Ability to manage complex projects and tasks both individually and within a team environment.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and manage tool inventory.
• Self-motivated approach with the ability to work proactively and independently.
• Collaborative mindset and strong team orientation.
• Availability for flexible scheduling, including domestic and international travel as needed.

• Knowledge of SolidWorks 3D CAD software.
• Knowledge of CAMWorks software for CNC programming.
• Experience with Mastercam or similar CNC programming tools.
• Experience with hands-on prototyping and research and development activities.
• Experience programming and operating CNC lathes and machining centers.
• Experience with manual machining operations, including lathe and mill work.
• Experience creating and using fixtures for fabrication and assembly.
• Experience training and supervising machine operators.
• Strong mechanical ability applied to prototype development and testing.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment that values innovation and continuous improvement.

The work takes place in a climate-controlled, air-conditioned manufacturing facility that supports both CNC and manual machining operations. You will work with CNC machines, manual lathes and mills, fixtures, inspection equipment, and industry-standard 3D CAD and CAM tools such as SolidWorks and CAMWorks. The culture is laid back yet focused, emphasizing hard work, efficiency, and collaboration across engineering and production teams. The role may require flexible hours and occasional domestic and international travel to support projects, training, or field-related activities. Appropriate shop-floor attire and adherence to standard safety practices are expected in the machining environment.

This is a Permanent position based out of Fredericksburg, VA.

The pay range for this position is $72000.00 - $105000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
