Sr Data Engineer

Blu Omega LLC supports data modernization and analytics initiatives for federal agency data needs, and this role helps deliver enterprise-scale data platforms in a hybrid work environment based in Ashburn, VA 20147 or the greater Washington, DC / Maryland / Virginia area . You will design, build, and optimize ETL/ELT and lakehouse-ready architectures, partnering with cloud engineering and cross-functional teams to help ensure data is integrated, governed, and usable for analytics, reporting, and data science. What you’ll do Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade ETL/ELT pipelines using Python and SQL Build, optimize, and manage scalable data models , including data warehouses , data lakes , and lakehouse environments using Databricks Ingest, clean, validate, transform, and integrate large-scale datasets from APIs, relational databases, flat files, and unstructured sources Create data schemas and models that support analytics , reporting , and data science initiatives Implement data quality , metadata management , governance , and security controls to support trustworthy data Collaborate with cloud engineering teams to deploy and manage solutions in Microsoft Azure Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize pipeline performance and reliability using logging , alerting , and CI/CD practices Partner with data scientists and analysts to support evolving analytical requirements Document architecture, pipeline logic, data flows, and procedures to improve maintainability What you bring 8+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or related technical roles 6+ years hands-on experience with Python and SQL , including scalable ETL/ELT pipeline development 2+ years experience with cloud data ecosystems such as Azure Data Factory 1+ years experience with modern data processing and lakehouse technologies such as Databricks Strong knowledge of data integration across diverse sources and formats Understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, data modeling, and architecture Familiarity with data governance, security, and compliance principles Bachelor’s degree in a related field Must be a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident Public Trust eligibility required Benefits Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage through national providers 401(k) with company match (eligible after 6 months; vesting applies) Company-paid Life and AD&D insurance with additional voluntary options Short-term disability (company-paid) and long-term disability options Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with 24/7 confidential support and mental health resources Telehealth and virtual care options available through medical plans Pet insurance, legal services, and identity theft protection options Paid Time Off (PTO) for eligible employees Paid federal holidays for salaried employees Access to wellness programs, discounts, and lifestyle benefits Preferred qualifications Experience supporting federal government or regulated environments Prior experience with CDC data environments Cloud or data engineering certifications, such as Microsoft Azure certifications Compensation Salary Range: USD 150,000 - 165,000 per year.
