Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) North Carolina is a network of eight tuition‑free, college‑preparatory public charter schools educating approximately 3,000 students in grades K‑12 across Durham, Halifax, Northampton and Mecklenburg counties. We provide the roadmaps and guideposts students need to arrive at success, however they define it. Job Responsibilities Your responsibilities as a Lead Teacher include: Review, internalize, and facilitate KIPP NC adopted and scripted curriculum. Deliver instruction for K‑8 Math, ELA, and Science using the Open Up Resources, Fish Tank, and Amplify materials. Implement 9‑12 English, History, Math, and Science curricula (AP For All and KIPP NC approved materials). Practice lesson delivery to execute curriculum at a high level while following the pacing guide with fidelity. Create exemplar responses and documents to hold students accountable. Use assessment data (Interim Assessments, MAP, EOGs, EOCs, summative, formative, etc.) to drive instruction and make lesson adjustments. Embrace and incorporate feedback in the spirit of pursuing excellence. Maintain accurate gradebook, records, and data tracking systems. Positive School and Classroom Culture Embodies and maintains school values, policies, and culture. Assumes personal responsibility for student achievement. Maintains a clean classroom displaying student work and appropriate decorations. Builds positive relationships with students, families, teachers, and staff through regular communication and attendance at required events. Participates in daily school functions: arrival, advisory/circle time, lunch duty, recess, and dismissal. Growth Mindset Collaborates with the coach to identify strengths and growth areas each year. Receives feedback during class, one‑on‑ones, observations, and school walkthroughs. Attends Practice Clinics, Professional Development Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and regional PD sessions. Compensation & Benefits Salaries paid semi‑monthly throughout the year. Competitive salary with compensation supplements for active North Carolina licensure, varying by location. Requirements Required Qualifications Deep commitment to the mission of KIPP NC and belief in the potential of all students. Commitment to improving the lives of children from low‑income communities. Valid North Carolina teaching license, ability to seek reciprocity, or willingness to pursue certification. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant content area. Pass criminal background check. Demonstrated commitment to closing the opportunity gap. Enthusiasm, grit, professionalism, and sense of humor. Ability to stand and actively monitor classrooms for 8+ hours daily. Ability to lift at least 50 lbs as required. Preferred Qualifications At least 2 full years of K‑12 teaching experience. Experience in a high‑performing charter school or in schools with many students receiving free/reduced lunch. Demonstrated success in raising achievement levels of economically marginalized students. Pass or anticipate passing Praxis exams by September 2025. Fluency in Spanish. Additional Information Hours: M, Th, & F 7:30 am–3:30 pm; Tu & W 7:30 am–5:00 pm.
