DESCRIPTION Class Title: Entry Level Police Officer Department: Police Department Union: Yes - Duvall Police Officers’ Association (DPOA-FOP) Recruitment type: Continuous recruitment GENERAL PURPOSE The Duvall Police Department is looking for Entry-Level Police Officers. Community‑oriented policing is our “bread and butter,” and new recruits are expected to uphold this tradition. There are opportunities for lateral movement and training for specialty assignments such as: School Resource Officer, Coalition of Small Police Agencies (CSPA) Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF), PIO/Social Media, Field Training Officers, Firearms Instructors and Armorers, Bicycle Patrol, EVOC Instructor, Quartermaster, Fleet Manager, Active Shooter Instructor, Car Seat Technician, Less Lethal/Taser Instructor, Taser Instructor, and Defensive Tactics Instructor. Patrol officers work 12‑hour shifts, 4 days on/4 days off. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Police Officers are expected to perform tasks conscientiously, proficiently, and independently, including all patrol assignments and responsibilities of a regular patrol officer or special assignments as assigned. Police work involves the potential for personal injury, and officers must act without direct supervision, exercising independent judgment and discretion during emergencies. Patrol and criminal investigation assignments are performed following departmental policies, rules, SOPs, and established precedent; deviations are referred to higher command for direction. Officers may be assigned to special law‑enforcement activities such as non‑routine investigations, surveillance, or juvenile matters requiring specialized training and experience. Performance is reviewed continuously by a supervisory officer through performance appraisals, reports, personal inspections, and discussions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS United States citizenship or lawful permanent resident. Minimum of 21 years of age by certification date of eligibility list. High school diploma or GED. Successful completion of a medical exam and drug screen by a licensed physician. Possession of—or ability to obtain—a valid Washington State Driver’s License. Driving record free from significant or serious moving violations. Personal record free of crimes or convictions involving moral character, including theft, dishonesty, or drug use, as required by Civil Service regulations. Successful completion of oral, psychological, and polygraph tests as prescribed by the City of Duvall Civil Service Commission. Possession of—or ability to obtain—a Mandatory Basic Law Enforcement School Certificate issued by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission. Out‑of‑state candidates must pass the CJTC equivalency examination. Ability to satisfactorily complete field training under the guidance of field training officers. RECRUITMENT PROCESS An application through the city website is required. Complete the required testing on the Public Safety Testing page and choose to share your scores with the City of Duvall. Scores are reviewed regularly; candidates will be notified if invited to an Oral Board interview (must be at least 21 years of age).
