Managing Director, Capital Markets

RETS Associates, on behalf of its Client, a well-established, vertically integrated real estate investment and operating company with ~ $2BN AUM and a nearly 50-year track record of success is seeking a Managing Director of Capital Markets to lead the firm's capital formation, investor relations, and capital strategy initiatives across its retail and multifamily investment platforms. Directly reporting to senior leadership and part of the executive team, the Managing Director will play a critical role in sourcing, structuring, and scaling institutional and private capital to support the firm's continued growth and investment objectives.

This role sits at the intersection of investment strategy, investor engagement, and capital execution, serving as a strategic partner to the CEO and Investment Committee. The successful candidate will lead capital formation and investor origination efforts across high-net-worth individuals, family offices, RIAs, and institutional investors, including pensions, endowments, and insurance platforms.

Responsibilities include developing and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies, securing equity commitments for programmatic joint ventures and deal-specific co-investments, and building a scalable investor pipeline with defined relationship management and conversion metrics. This position offers a unique opportunity to help institutionalize and expand a best-in-class capital platform within a highly entrepreneurial and growth-oriented organization.

Client is based in San Diego. Candidates not currently based in San Diego should reside on the West Coast, with expectations to visit the corporate office as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 12-20+ years in real estate private equity capital raising, investment banking (real estate coverage), placement agent platforms or institutional asset management
• Demonstrated track record of raising significant capital ($500M-$2B+)
• Deep relationships across family offices and HNW networks or Institutional LPs High ownership mentality; operates like a business builder
• Strong alignment with entrepreneurial yet institutional platforms Ability to influence senior stakeholders internally and externally
• Results-driven with a strong sense of urgency and accountability
• Elite relationship-building and sales capability
• Strong financial and structuring acumen
• Ability to operate at both strategic (firm-level capital planning) and tactical (closing individual investors)
• Exceptional communication and storytelling ability

Compensation: base salary, bonus and a 3rd component
