Registered Nurse – ICU (Neuroscience Intensive Care)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | 3 x 12-hour shifts per week | 36 hours per week | Every Other Weekend

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to critically ill neuroscience patients including those with acute stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, seizure and status epilepticus, Guillain-Barré syndrome, myasthenia gravis, and post-neurosurgical and endovascular conditions
• Perform and interpret NIHSS assessments, and assist with lumbar procedures, ventriculostomy, and ICP monitoring and management
• Manage arterial lines, central lines, various cranial drains, and mechanical ventilation
• Administer and titrate intravenous drips including pain management, sedation, and vasopressors in an ICU setting
• Implement temperature management protocols for hypo- and hyperthermia, and provide care involving Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
• Float between Neuroscience ICU and Surgical ICU as needed, to areas of equal or lesser acuity

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact State license
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• NIHSS certification required
• Prior experience in a tertiary care facility
• Must pass EKG and Pharmacology exams during the pre-start compliance process
• Must reside within 80 miles of the facility (local radius requirement)

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in a Neuroscience ICU or Surgical ICU environment
• Familiarity with CRRT, ICP management, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring
• Experience managing complex neurological and post-surgical critically ill patient populations
