Software Engineer Intern
Ploy
Who We Are
At Ploy, we’re building the first growth automation software with your website at its core. We serve innovative operators at growth and marketing agencies, tech start-ups, and some traditional industries as well.
They build their website with Ploy’s agents, and then those agents automatically research the landscape and business context, identify winning strategies for account-based personalization, SEO/AEO, conversion rate optimization, and ship dozens of on-brand, on-strategy web pages in seconds to drive traffic and conversions.
Our vision is to completely re-define the concept of a marketing website in today’s agentic world.
And tear down the broken, archaic low-code tech stacks of the last generation of website builders. With agents, we can unburden a world of story-tellers from manual work, long timelines, and being blocked by internal and external resourcing, and return them to a world of, “yes, and” + “let’s just do it.”
It’s a big, scary ambitious vision, but our team is uniquely positioned to do it.
- Some of the best engineers, design engineers and growth engineers in the world.
- World-class investors.
- And one of our co-founders is Bryant Chou, the former co-founder and CTO of Webflow. Yes, uniquely positioned.
- And last but not least, hopefully you, the one reading this
About the Role
From our experience at Webflow and other category-defining companies, we believe deeply that the future of software belongs to builders who can move fast, care deeply about craft, and use AI to collapse the distance between idea and execution.
Ploy is hiring a Software Engineer Intern to help us build the product that makes that future real.
You’ll work on the core Ploy web application using JavaScript, Next.js, and modern frontend technologies. That means helping build the interfaces, workflows, and product experiences that allow users to create, customize, and ship high-performing websites with AI agents at the center.
This role sits at the intersection of product engineering, design engineering, and growth. You’ll help turn ambitious product ideas into polished, usable, production-ready experiences — from agent-powered website creation flows to customer-facing dashboards, internal tools, onboarding moments, and growth experiments.
This is a high-context, high-ownership internship at an early-stage startup. You won’t be handed isolated tickets that never see the light of day. You’ll work closely with engineers, designers, founders, and growth teams to ship real features that users touch.
You should be someone who loves building, learns quickly, has strong taste for product, and gets excited about writing clean, thoughtful code that helps people move faster.
What You’ll Own
- Frontend product development — Build and improve user-facing product experiences using JavaScript, Next.js, React, and modern web technologies
- Agent-powered workflows — Help create the interfaces and systems that let users work with Ploy’s agents to build, edit, and ship web pages faster
- Product polish — Improve the small details that make software feel fast, intuitive, and delightful, from loading states to empty states to interaction patterns
- Growth experiments — Support experiments across onboarding, activation, conversion, and retention to help more users experience the value of Ploy
- Internal tools — Build tools and workflows that help the Ploy team move faster across product, growth, customer success, and operations
- Performance & reliability — Help improve frontend performance, page speed, responsiveness, and overall product quality
- Design collaboration — Work closely with design and product to translate ideas, mocks, and prototypes into clean, functional interfaces
- Engineering quality — Write maintainable code, participate in code reviews, fix bugs, and contribute to a fast-moving engineering culture
- Customer-driven building — Stay close to real user problems and help turn feedback into product improvements
Qualifications
The ideal candidate has:
- Experience building web applications with JavaScript, React, and Next.js
- Strong understanding of modern frontend development, including components, state management, routing, APIs, and responsive design
- A genuine interest in startups, AI, websites, growth, design engineering, and the future of software
- Good product instincts — you care not just that something works, but that it feels clear, fast, and useful
- Comfort moving quickly, learning new tools, and figuring things out without perfect instructions
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to break ambiguous technical problems into clear next steps
- Attention to detail in both code and user experience
- Willingness to collaborate closely with engineers, designers, founders, and go-to-market teams
- A bias toward shipping — you like building real things and getting them in front of users
- Comfort working in-person with a fast-moving team in New York City
- Bonus: experience with TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Node.js, Vercel, Supabase, PostgreSQL, Prisma, or similar tools
- Bonus: experience building with AI tools, LLM APIs, agents, or automation workflows
- Bonus: you’ve built side projects, shipped products, contributed to open source, or have a portfolio of things you’re proud of
This role is for someone who wants to learn by building, move fast, and contribute to a product trying to redefine what a marketing website can be.
If that sounds exciting, we’d love to meet you.
