Description: This facility has 457 licensed beds and is a Trauma Level III center. It is a teaching hospital and has a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center of Excellence. The facility offers X-Ray, CT, Ultrasound, MRI, Interventional Radiology, and Nuclear Medicine, with Radiology Nursing support. Travelers must reside 50 miles outside of the home unit. The department averages 30-40 patients per day. The minimum years of experience required is 1 year. First-time travelers are accepted. Patient types include those from the Emergency Department, inpatient units, and outpatient settings. Common diagnoses include neuro deficits, acute strokes, seizures, prostate cancer, diabetic foot complications, and pancreatic cysts. The department cares for a large population of medical device patients. Cases with anesthesia may be performed as needed. Cardiac and pediatric imaging are also provided, with and without anesthesia. The role requires examining requests and verifying orders for each patient. It is essential to address discrepancies with the Radiologist or ordering provider. Proper identification of patients using two identifiers is necessary, along with offering brief explanations of procedures. Preparing patients for procedures and documenting the process is required. Interviews must be conducted to gather complete medical histories. Reviewing EMRs of inpatients, ER, and outpatients is also necessary to obtain clinical histories. The technologist assumes responsibility for exams from start to finish until results are dictated. Preparing and administering IV contrast according to protocols is part of the role. Evaluating technical quality of images and consulting with a Radiologist when needed is expected. Basic patient care functions are required, including informing nursing personnel of any changes in the patient's condition. Life support measures should be initiated when necessary. All invasive procedures must align with bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection control policies. Guest Services/Transport support is available for inpatient, observation, and ED patients. Child Life Services assist with pediatric patients. No overnight tech assistant is provided. Technology used includes EMR systems, RIS, PACS, and specific department equipment including GE and Siemens MRI machines. Schedulers will rotate shifts as needed and will work 75% of holidays. Manager approval is required for requested time off. Scrub colors are black.
