Job Posting: Supervising Arson and Bomb Investigator Overview

• Salary: $8,504.00 – $11,814.00 per month (minimum salary for new-to-state candidates)
• Term: 12‑month limited term with potential extension to 24 months and possibility of permanent appointment.

Responsibilities Conduct field investigations of arson and bomb incidents across California. Perform explosive device analysis and maintain custody of evidence. Preserve scene integrity, document evidence, and prepare detailed reports for legal proceedings. Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and other stakeholders. Provide technical support and testimony in court or administrative hearings. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of explosive devices, weapons of mass destruction, and advanced bomb techniques. Qualifications Pass the state exam for the classification and be on the current certified list. Maintain Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Regular Basic Course Academy (RBC) certification. Valid weapons qualification and current POST training. Certified Explosives Specialist Core training (ATF requirements). Bomb Technician certification through the Hazardous Devices School (HDS) – FBI requirements. Maintain Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) certification through an accredited body (OSFM, CCAI, NAFI, or IAAI). Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record. Physical fitness to lift, carry, or move heavy objects (>75 lbs), and ability to wear a bomb suit and respiratory protection equipment. Annual medical clearance for respiratory protection program (RPP). Ability and willingness to work irregular hours, weekends, holidays, and to be on 24‑hour standby or on‑call. Travel throughout California; up to 35% of time may involve out‑of‑state travel, including overnight stays. Working Conditions Positions may be headquartered in Humboldt, Shasta, Butte, Sonoma, Sacramento, Alameda, Fresno, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, or San Luis Obispo counties; travel statewide is required. Gun and bomb device handling in confined and hazardous environments. Use of SCBA and other high‑consequence protective equipment as necessary. Store and transport explosive devices as per federal and state regulations. Minimum Requirements One position available. Work location: United States, in‑office.
