Chipton-Ross is seeking experienced Advanced Shipfitters for a long-term contract opportunity in Newport News, Virginia. This role is ideal for highly skilled shipfitters with naval shipbuilding experience who thrive in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment and take pride in producing quality work.

What You'll Do

As an Advanced Shipfitter, you will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, fitting, and installing structural components aboard naval and commercial vessels. Duties include:

• • Multi-pass tack welding
  • Oxygen/propane burning and heating operations
  • Reading and interpreting complex blueprints, weld symbols, structural drawings, and sketches
  • Laying out and fabricating piece parts for assembly
  • Fitting and assembling structural steel components to specification
  • Using molded lines, reference lines, work packages, and drawings to plan and execute work
  • Installing hull inserts, penetrations, foundations, decks, bulkheads, longitudinals, trunks, and other structural components
  • Erecting, setting, and making up complex shell plates
  • Air carbon arc gouging
  • Using grinders, needle guns, and other vibratory tools
  • Working safely in accordance with OSHA shipbuilding standards

Required Qualifications

To be considered, candidates must have:

✔ 4+ years of commercial or naval shipfitting experience at the First-Class level

✔ Demonstrated experience with:

• • Multi-pass tack welding
  • Oxygen/propane burning and heating torches
  • Air carbon arc gouging
  • Structural steel fabrication and assembly
  • Reading shipbuilding drawings and blueprints
  • Fractional measurements and layout work

✔ Experience in physically demanding environments such as:

• • Shipbuilding
  • Ship repair
  • Steel fabrication
  • Heavy industrial manufacturing

✔ Knowledge of OSHA regulations related to shipbuilding

✔ Ability to wear required PPE and work safely in industrial environments

Shift Information

Candidates must be flexible and available for any shift assignment:

1st Shift: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
2nd Shift: 3:30 PM - 12:00 AM
3rd Shift: 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM

Safety & PPE Requirements

Candidates must understand and comply with PPE requirements, including:

• • Eye and face protection
  • Head protection
  • Hearing protection
  • Foot protection
  • Hand and body protection
  • Fall protection systems (PFAS)
  • Positioning device systems

Employment Requirements

• • Successful completion of a drug screen
  • Successful completion of a background check
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • No third-party candidates or sponsorship available
