Primary Location: The GRADUATE CENTER Bargaining Unit: No About Us: Bridges to Academic Success is a project that provides educational services and advocates for newcomer students who enter U.S. schools with limited academic skills, including low levels of literacy in their home languages. Bridges supports schools, teachers, and students by helping to accelerate language, literacy, and content-area learning through special school programming, curricula, and professional development for educators. About the Role: We are looking for a part-time math curriculum developer with a language and literacy background who also has experience teaching English learners. The students who use our materials are new to the United States, new to English, and have in many cases experienced an interruption in their schooling. We are also expanding our resources to service long-term ELLs so are looking for an experienced math educator who has also served this population of students. Specific Roles and Responsibilities: The candidate will revise two units of study based on feedback from the sponsor and from internal and external review. This includes teacher lessons, power points, student-facing materials. The candidate will coordinate with the project manager, project director, and other staff to set up timelines, deliverables and milestones on-time and with quality. The candidate will build the capacity of internal team members to lead and support the math unit implementation with the field. The coach will partner with team members to analyze needs assessments, conduct surveys and calls with educators to obtain feedback on new materials. This role will require considerable project management and leadership experience as a team leader or other position. The position requires both individual and collaborative team work. The candidate will have experience coaching teachers and/or leading professional learning seminars, and developing curricula or content with appropriate scaffolds. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications 3+ years experience teaching math at the secondary level; 3+ years experience teaching literacy; 3+ years experience working with and teaching English Language Learners and preferably SIFE or newcomers and LTELs; Knowledge and experience with curriculum development and design, including backwards design; Ability to integrate feedback from a variety of stakeholders into deliverables; Experience working with external stakeholders and as part of collaborative team; Experience coaching and working with teachers; facilitating adult learning; Willingness to give and receive feedback on work and to revise in response to feedback; Facility with technology and online content dissemination; Ability to proactively manage time and deadlines across multiple workstreams; plan out milestones, and meet deliverable timelines independently; Ability to collaborate across the team in multiple cross-functional areas; Bachelor's degree required.
