Information Technology (IT) Director July 1, 2026 Department: Administration Reports To: City Manager Position Summary The Information Technology (IT) Director is responsible for the administration, maintenance, security, and strategic planning of the City's information technology systems and infrastructure. This position oversees the City's technology operations, ensures the integrity and reliability of network and communication systems, provides technical support to all departments, and recommends technology solutions that improve operational efficiency and support the City's mission. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Administer, maintain, and support the City's computers, servers, network infrastructure, and related technology systems. Procure, install, configure, and update computer hardware, software, operating systems, and network equipment. Monitor and maintain cybersecurity measures, including firewalls, antivirus software, system updates, firmware, audit logs, and security monitoring. Ensure compliance with applicable technology security standards, including CJIS/NCIC requirements for public safety systems and PCI compliance for payment processing systems. Manage user accounts, domain services, email systems, spam filtering, cloud applications, and website domain records. Monitor the health and performance of servers, network storage, firewalls, and other electronic infrastructure to ensure reliable system operation. Support and maintain camera systems, dispatch radio system interfaces, audio/visual equipment, and technology used for City Commission meetings and recordings. Coordinate with software vendors and service providers regarding system maintenance, software updates, troubleshooting, and implementation of department‑specific applications. Provide technical assistance and support to City departments, including diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues. Maintain technology inventories, documentation, and records related to hardware, software licensing, and system configurations. Research, recommend, and implement technology improvements that enhance operational efficiency, reliability, and security. Operate an unmanned aircraft system (drone) for City purposes when qualified; drone experience is preferred but not required. Perform other related duties as assigned. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of computer hardware, servers, networking, Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft 365, cloud‑based applications, and cybersecurity best practices. Familiarity with network security, firewalls, system monitoring, and regulatory compliance standards. Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide effective customer service to City staff. Ability to manage multiple priorities, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively with employees, vendors, and contractors. Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field is helpful; bachelor's degree preferred. Or three (3) years of an equivalent combination of education and experience. Municipal government experience is helpful. Experience administering Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft 365, networking equipment, cybersecurity solutions, and cloud services. Valid driver's license. Drone Pilot experience is helpful. Physical Requirements Frequently sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb ladders. Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Work in office environments, equipment rooms, and occasionally outdoors. May be required to work evenings or weekends for scheduled maintenance, software updates, or emergency technology issues. Working Conditions Work is performed in office settings, server rooms, and other City facilities. The position may require after‑hours work to perform server maintenance, software updates, emergency troubleshooting, and support for City Commission meetings or critical public safety systems.
