Emergency Veterinary Technician (Swing Shift) - Veterinary Specialty Center Tucson

Position Overview The Emergency Veterinary Technician (Swing Shift) at PetVet Care Centers' Veterinary Specialty Center in Tucson supports hospital operations by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and exceptional service to patients and clients. Responsibilities include patient care, examinations, diagnostic procedures, assistance during surgeries, nursing care, feeding, triage, discharge, and recordkeeping. Key Responsibilities Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations, interviews, reviewing care plans, laboratory tests and studies, and diagnostic imaging. Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, drugs, and vaccines, and bandaging and wrapping wounds. Support patient examinations and operations by assembling required supplies and instruments, securing and bringing patients to exam rooms, restraining patients, and performing tasks as directed by the veterinarian. Apply full knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, specialized equipment usage, and drug administration. Obtain and verify medications. Ensure patients have food and water, clean rooms, cages, equipment; observe for clinical signs. Fill prescriptions and administer medications, including proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs. Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments, sanitizing holding and operating areas, ensuring sterile supplies, verifying shelf life, following standards and procedures, and complying with legal regulations. Maintain medical records by documenting patients’ conditions, reactions, changes, and updating the database accurately and timely. Communicate with pet owners about patient status, per veterinarian instruction. Maintain equipment, troubleshoot, perform preventive maintenance, and call for repairs. Maintain inventory, place orders for supplies, verify receipts. Continue professional development by educational opportunities and reading journals. Release pets to owners, ensuring clean and groomed condition. Follow oral and written directions. Perform other duties assigned by Manager or practice. Qualifications (Required) One year minimum of emergency experience. Able to properly hold dogs and cats, including fractious patients. Ability to administer IM, SQ, and IV injections. Proficient in IV catheter placement. Ability to obtain a proper history and vitals on critical and non-critical patients. Strong communication skills. Ability to work well with others. Preferred Skills (Nice To Have) Anesthesia training – monitoring and administering anesthesia. Schedule Full time, swing shift. Monday 7:00 AM–7:00 PM; Thursday and Friday 1:00 PM–1:00 AM.
