HEAD START - RXII - Health Assistant, Seasonal

Summary of Primary Function As a member of a health services team that routinely travels between centers to provide various health services, the Health Assistant is responsible for supporting services provided and transporting children to medical and dental appointments. The Health Assistant accurately documents health information and enters into ChildPlus system in a timely manner. Helps recruit potential parents by providing information to them about the various program services and benefits offered to enrolled children and families. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Assist in organizing health screenings. Coordinate health screenings with teachers and providers. Prepare equipment and space needed for health screenings. Prepare children for screening procedures. Document screening results on proper forms. Transport children to scheduled medical and dental appointments when necessary. Assist the health team in providing comprehensive health services to children. Assist onsite medical and dental providers by coordinating services needed, completing necessary paperwork, and working with children to ensure seamless service delivery and a pleasant experience for children. Provide and assist in providing first aid as needed. Assist the screener/provider in completing the screenings. Screen children for hearing and vision. Complete and document child heights and weights. Assist in scheduling medical and dental appointments for children. Effectively communicate children's health needs, condition, and status to parents, guardians, providers, medical and dental staff, and health team. Provide translation when able and needed. Complete, prepare, and enter health data updates. Prepare child records for filing. File records according to established procedures. Utilize the internal Health Services system to collect and enter necessary data in ChildPlus system, ensuring data is current, complete, and accurate. Assist in the coordination and completion of contracts with providers, services, and equipment. Under the guidance of the Program Nurse/Health Services Specialist, provide training materials, support and guidance to families. Provide or assist in providing training to parents, guardians, and staff.
