Westport Community Schools Westport Elementary School - Westport, Massachusetts Open in Google Maps Starting Date: Immediately Job Description Reports to: School Principal, Director of Special Education and BCBA Job goal: To work directly with Special Education students and their families to develop appropriate learning and social behaviors through the implementation of ABA programs as directed by the BCBA. Performance Responsibilities Provides ABA therapy sessions under the direction of the BCBA. Assists BCBA in implementing behavioral programming and collecting data. Coach and train staff to ensure behavior strategies and plans are followed. Serve as an ABA shadow in school to help generalize training for student. (A shadow is an ABA trained technician who accompanies the student in an integrated classroom setting in order to ensure that the appropriate behaviors developed during separate ABA therapy sessions are generalized and applied in the classroom setting.) Alert classroom teachers and BCBA to needs and concerns of individual students including incidents and/or complaints. Participate in appropriate in-service training programs. Assists teachers in implementing strategies for reinforcing positive behavior, based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students. Regular, reliable attendance. Perform reasonable professional tasks or duties as may be required by the Superintendent of Schools, Director of Special Education and/or Building Principal. The position requires the ability to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment at efficient speed. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, policies, instructions, correspondence, and procedures. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to employees, students, and the general public. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the major functions of this position. The position requires an individual to work inside a classroom setting where noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Terms of Employment As per collective bargaining agreement between the Westport School Committee and AFSCME Council 93, Local 2667. Evaluation Evaluation will be in accordance with district policy and collective bargaining agreements. Job Requirements Associate's Degree Required Bachelor's Degree preferred. RBT or BCaBA certification required. CPI certification preferred. Work experience with students in a school or agency setting. Must have knowledge of behavioral strategies, data and graphing. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with students, teachers, parents, and administrators. At least 3 year(s) of relevant experience preferred. Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
