Loan Officer

DESCRIPTION

Purpose:

To find opportunities to lend to our members and to properly insure those loans with needed ancillary products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Timely review loan applications submitted through all channels.
• Interview members to determine best loan type, terms and ancillary products based on credit history, capacity and collateral available to meet or exceed sales goals.
• Actively look for cross-selling opportunities in both loan and deposit products and encourage members to take advantage of those to meet or exceed sales goals.
• Provide limited financial counseling as needed to encourage members to meet loan counter-offers and to qualify for future loan applications, and communicate loan decisions to members.
• Provide underwriter with all necessary information to make an informed and safe credit decision.
• Back up other lending functions and perform other clerical duties as needed.
• Open Share accounts as needed for new memberships.

Other duties involving lending may be assignedEach employee will additionally be assigned training, including annual Bank Secrecy Act training, that may include testingEmployees will be required to earn a passing grade, as set by the vendor or AFCUAll employees will be required to actively participate in credit union advocacy efforts and are encouraged to contribute to credit union trade advocacy funds, such as CUPAC/CULAC.

Skills and Qualifications Required:

• High school diploma and minimum two years' experience in lending and/or sales environment.
• Extreme attention to detail and ability to keep up in a fast-paced environment.
• Minimum typing speed of 50wpm.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and ExcelProficiency with electronic delivery systemsAbility to use Adobe or other like software to complete and view fillable documents.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and technical proceduresAbility to organize thoughts in written and/ or oral form in a professional and grammatically correct manner, so that the recipient may easily understand the contents.
• Ability to analyze member requests and apply credit union procedures which best serve the memberAbility to explain loan documents to members in a manner in which they understand.
• Ability to calculate interest accrued per day on loansAbility to calculate minor calculations such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and figuring percentages.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram formAbility to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to lift up to 5 pounds. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and to walk to other locations in building as necessary to complete workAbility to push heavy doors as necessary to gain access to areas needing entry to complete workAbility to stoop, kneel and crouch to complete other tasks as necessary.

REQUIREMENTS

• This is not a remote position. The selected applicant will be required to work onsite.
