Under the supervision of the Regional Director, with direction from the Youth Development Leadership Team, the After School Director plans, coordinates and provides supervision of the afterschool program to ensure quality services which provide growth in academics, social emotional development and health and wellness. The Director conducts him/herself in a caring, responsible, honest, and respectful manner and is a role model for colleagues, staff as well as for program families. In addition, he/she ensures focus on programming that promotes healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development.
This role will work 30 hours a week onsite at the Trotter Elementary School (including afterschool program hours). Other off-site meetings will be required on a predetermined schedule with supervisor.
Key ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities
- Gain knowledge of the school day curricula by supporting classrooms throughout the school day. Utilizing that knowledge, ensure that the program staff plans and implements classroom curricula that align with school day learning and provide growth in skills, self-awareness, group relations, and character development.
- Ensure adherence to EEC licensing standards, and create systems and structures that allow for organized and impactful programming and an inclusive culture.
- Develop new or utilize existing systems of communication to inform parents and community networks about scheduling, program activities and opportunities for engagement.
- Participate in the Y annual campaign
- Maintain a program environments which are safe, healthy, and engaging.
- Position the YMCA in the community as a resource and asset through engagement and participation in the broader Trotter community.
- Collaborate with Trotter school staff to ensure that the after-school program is a valued extension of the school day.
- Support and/or operate as lead Director, summer programming at a licensed YMCA location.
General Responsibilities
- Keep safety of children as first priority; emphasize personal safety and emotional well-being with the children, parents, and early education staff.
- Use positive and constructive methods of child and staff guidance, while ensuring that all staff does the same.
- Ensures the development, maintenance, and quality of the program, consistent with the YMCA mission and philosophy - including daily schedules of staff, curriculum, supervision, staff meetings, professional development, parent meetings, and special events.
- Ensure all necessary personnel, payroll, file maintenance, and EEC paperwork is current, including documents related to licensing and other state or YMCA initiatives.
- Maintain accurate attendance, children’s files, evaluations, and proper reporting to parents and regulatory agencies.
- Manage transportation for participants
- Work with the Business Manager / Bookkeeper to ensure up-to-date accounts among families in accordance with EEC and YMCA policies as needed.
- Perform other duties as requested by supervisor or Youth Development Leadership

Skills, Knowledge and ExpertisePreferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree
- A passion for positive youth development, serving youth and families and out of school time programming
- 1-2 years of experience training, leading and coaching part-time staff
- Experience working in diverse communities and a commitment to an equity mindset and asset-based perspective
- Bilingual in English and Haitian Kreyol preferred
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit (at times on the floor with children) and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
