Cumberland Council is seeking a proactive and experienced Highways Team Leader to supervise and organise a team of up to five operatives. You’ll oversee a variety of tasks including patching, drainage works, bridge maintenance and traffic management, ensuring safety, quality and performance on site. Who we’re looking for We’re looking for someone with a full UK driving licence, strong knowledge of highway materials and maintenance processes, and proven leadership experience. Certification in abrasive wheels and experience with plant and equipment are essential. Desired qualifications include NVQs in Highway Maintenance or Team Leadership, and tickets such as CSCS, HIAB and NRSWA. Key responsibilities Lead and manage a team of up to five operatives. Plan, coordinate and supervise patching, drainage works, bridge maintenance and traffic management activities. Ensure all work meets quality, safety and performance standards. Manage plant, equipment and resource allocation. Maintain accurate records and reports. Qualifications Full UK driving licence. Strong knowledge of highway materials and maintenance processes. Proven leadership experience. Certification in abrasive wheels. Experience with plant and equipment. NVQ in Highway Maintenance or Team Leadership (desirable). CSCS, HIAB, NRSWA tickets (desirable).
