Ambulatory Medical Director - Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology

Position Summary The Ambulatory Medical Director (AMD) works collaboratively and in partnership with the System Chief, Site Chief, System Administrative Director, Administrative Manager, and Practice Managers to oversee the overall clinical operations of the OBGYN ambulatory practices. The AMD collaborates with faculty and BMC ambulatory administration to establish clinical policies and practices, maintain quality, patient access and experience, volume, and financial goals for the practice. The AMD will be evaluated annually by the Site Chair and System Administrative Director using performance metrics with input from faculty, BMC operational, and nursing leadership. This role includes 20% protected administrative time. Essential Responsibilities / Duties Roles and Responsibilities – General Plan, implement, direct, and evaluate the clinical services of the ambulatory practice in alignment with BMC-Brighton, BMCAP, and departmental goals. Ensure alignment with institutional strategic priorities, access goals, and health equity initiatives. Oversee physicians, advanced practice professionals, and staff to continuously improve performance in the six quality domains of safety, timeliness, equity, efficiency, effectiveness, and patient‑centered care. Use data and dashboards to monitor performance and drive improvement. Oversee scheduling, space, staff utilization, revenue cycle management, and technology such as the electronic health record and telehealth. Lead efforts to standardize clinical practices across sites where appropriate. Build partnerships with internal and external practices, referral sources, and community health centers. Work with hospital and department leadership teams to measurably improve patient experience. Improve efficiency and satisfaction of clinicians, staff, and administrative team members in collaboration with BMC leadership. Participate in cross‑ambulatory activities and initiatives to improve clinical services and operations and to support overall goals of BMC-Brighton and BMCAP. Participate regularly in appropriate administrative meetings, including: Department faculty and staff meetings. Weekly operations meetings with administrative leadership and practice staff. Other committees or meetings related to ambulatory practice. Participate in professional development programs offered by BMC, BMCAP, and other entities such as the AAMC. Model professionalism and adherence to professional and regulatory standards. Support and provide oversight to clinical research activities, including study recruitment and visits. Provide oversight to the development, interpretation, and implementation of policies, standards, and guidelines consistent with institutional and regulatory requirements. Operations and Administration Lead or provide input at regular meetings with physicians and APPs related to ambulatory practice operations. Set clear priorities and follow‑up actions. Maintain oversight of physician and APP schedules. Participate in the recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes for physicians, APPs, and support staff. Provide an oversight structure for clinical practice of APPs. Participate in the yearly performance appraisal of key leaders. Build a diverse workforce and leadership team through recruitment, mentorship, training, and creation of opportunities for growth. Address physician and APP performance and adherence to standards. Formulate and implement medical practice policies and procedures. Perform periodic reviews of practice management functions in collaboration with the System Chief and administrative leaders. Incorporate Lean, quality improvement, and evidence‑based practices. Maintain familiarity with relevant IT systems, ensuring adherence to medical record documentation and billing requirements. Financial Management and Business Development In conjunction with the System Chief, provide insight into the formulation and management of the BMC-Brighton operating and capital budget, including visit and procedure volumes and provider productivity. Participate in or lead planning for new program development and identify opportunities for growth. Work with the leadership team to monitor practice growth and staffing needs, and develop business plans to justify added or modified staffing or resources. Job Requirements Qualifications and Education Board certified or eligible. Minimum of three years clinical experience beyond residency or fellowship training. Minimum 50% clinical effort, including at least two to four ½‑day ambulatory practice sessions per week. Demonstrated progressive management experience and skills. Professional leadership experience and/or formal education/training (e.g., MBA, MPH, MS) encouraged but not required. Compensation range: $330,993 – $380,906. The base salary will be based on clinical FTE, qualifications, experience, education, board certifications, specialty, training, and scope of practice.
