Position Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced Quality & Welding Manager to lead the quality function across machining, welding, and metal fabrication operations. This is a hands-on leadership role combining shop-floor inspection with quality-system management, ISO 9001 compliance, welding quality, corrective actions, and preparation for AISC certification.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working directly with machinists, welders, supervisors, engineers, and management while taking ownership of the company's overall quality program.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead and continuously improve the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System , including audits, corrective actions, documentation, procedures, and quality KPIs.
  • Oversee machining quality and inspection , including first-piece, in-process, and final inspections, blueprint/GD&T interpretation, CMM and laser measurement, and dimensional verification.
  • Manage welding and fabrication quality , including weld inspections, AWS D1.1 requirements, WPS/PQR/WPQ documentation, material traceability, and coordination of NDT when required.
  • Lead the company's preparation for AISC Certification , including developing procedures, maintaining documentation, conducting internal audits, and coordinating the certification process.
  • Work directly with production teams, suppliers, and customers to identify root causes, resolve quality issues, implement corrective actions, and build a stronger company-wide quality culture.
Key Skills
  • ISO 9001 Quality Management: Strong experience managing quality systems, audits, NCRs, corrective actions, documentation, and continuous improvement.
  • Machining & Welding Quality: Strong understanding of CNC machining, fabrication, welding inspection, AWS D1.1, engineering drawings, GD&T, and inspection equipment.
  • Leadership & Problem Solving: Ability to lead quality initiatives, communicate effectively with shop-floor personnel and management, identify root causes, and take ownership of quality performance.
Education & Requirements
  • 5+ years of relevant manufacturing quality experience in machining, fabrication, welding, or a similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and experience maintaining or managing a quality-management system.
  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T skills.
  • Experience with CNC-machined components and precision inspection equipment.
  • Experience with welding and fabricated assemblies.
  • Knowledge of AWS D1.1 .
  • Strong documentation, organizational, communication, and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and spend significant time on the manufacturing floor.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is strongly preferred but not mandatory.
  • AISC Certification experience is highly preferred.
  • CMM/laser measurement, NDT, ASQ, Lean/Six Sigma, inspection-plan, or ERP/MRP quality experience is a plus.

Location and Compensation
Location: On-site at a machining and fabrication facility in the Waco, TX area near Mexia (Central Texas). Local candidates strongly preferred.
Employment: Full-time, direct hire.
Compensation: Strong, based on experience, certifications (CWI, AISC, ISO), and technical qualifications.
