We are CNN.The CNN Growth team is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help build and evolve the systems and user experiences that drive audience growth, engagement, and monetization across CNN's digital platforms. This role is ideal for a strong senior individual contributor who enjoys building high quality software, collaborating closely with teammates, and taking ownership of meaningful technical problems in a fast moving, consumer focused environment.As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a key contributor on a newly forming team. You will work hands on across the stack, delivering reliable, performant features while contributing to technical discussions, code quality, and engineering best practices. You will partner closely with designers, product managers, and other engineers to turn ideas into production ready solutions. You will also help ensure systems are scalable, secure, and maintainable as the team and platform grow.The daily tasks include:Design, build, and maintain production ready software systems and user facing featuresWork primarily in modern JavaScript, maintaining and developing components and servicesCollaborate closely with designers to implement interfaces that are functional, accessible, and visually polishedOptimize code for performance, scalability, and reliabilityDevelop and maintain server side logic and APIs for client server communicationIntegrate front end elements with back end systems seamlesslyParticipate in code and architecture reviews and champion engineering best practicesFollow a progressive development approach from proof of concept through production releaseIntegrate third party libraries and services responsibly and securelyIdentify and address security, performance, and quality risks earlyWork within Agile development practices on a distributed teamCommunicate clearly within the team and across teams to drive alignment and deliveryOur tech stack includes JavaScript, TypeScript, Node, Python, Svelte, Sass, AWS services, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools.Requirements include:4+ years of experience building and maintaining production software systems4+ years of experience with JavaScript, including modern ES6+ and asynchronous patternsExperience designing and implementing APIs and web applicationsSolid understanding of performance optimization, security, and system design principlesExperience with performance monitoring and analytics tools such as Datadog or New RelicStrong collaboration and communication skills within and across teamsExperience working in Agile development environmentsHands on familiarity with both client side and server side developmentStrong sense of ownership and accountability for delivered workAbility to break down broader goals into clear technical tasks and solutionsNice to have:Experience developing or contributing to CMS platformsExperience with templating systems such as HandlebarsExperience setting up, managing, or improving CI/CD pipelines using AWS toolsSome Python experienceExperience with frontend frameworks such as Vue, Svelte, or ReactExperience integrating authorization, identity, payment, or subscription APIsExperience with A/B testing or experimentation platformsAbout you:You are passionate about software engineering and take pride in high quality work.
