Under the direction of the Director of Nursing Services, the Registered Nurse – Infection Prevention & Control Nurse is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program. This position serves as a clinical resource to facility staff by providing education, guidance, consultation, and assistance with problem-solving related to resident care and infection prevention practices.

The Infection Prevention Nurse works collaboratively with the Medical Director, Executive Director, Director of Nursing, and interdisciplinary team to develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate the facility’s annual infection prevention goals and initiatives. The nurse ensures that infection prevention practices are consistent with facility policies and applicable state and federal requirements.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Coordinate and oversee the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program.
• Conduct ongoing surveillance of healthcare-associated and community-acquired infections and identify trends or areas of concern.
• Maintain appropriate infection surveillance records and routinely report findings to the Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) Committee.
• Prepare infection control reports, statistical data, trend analyses, and other information for review by the QAPI Committee and facility leadership.
• Provide guidance and consultation to nursing and other facility staff regarding infection prevention, resident care practices, and regulatory compliance.
• Assist with evaluating resident care delivery systems and identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Perform medical record and chart reviews as necessary to monitor compliance and quality of care.
• Review physician orders and other clinical documentation as needed.
• Assist facility leadership with investigating infection-related concerns and developing appropriate corrective actions and interventions.
• Provide education and training to employees regarding infection prevention and control practices, including evidence-based infection control measures, standard precautions, transmission-based precautions, isolation procedures, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
• Monitor staff compliance with infection prevention policies and provide education or corrective guidance when opportunities for improvement are identified.
• Collaborate with facility leadership to promote a safe environment and reduce the risk of infection among residents, employees, and visitors.
