Financial Analyst

Position Summary

The Financial Analyst supports the Company’s financial planning and analysis, investor relations, corporate development, commodity hedging, and treasury activities.

With direction from the role's direct supervisor, the Financial Analyst maintains and updates the Company’s corporate financial model, coordinates financial and operating inputs from functional teams, performs financial analysis, supports evaluation of investment opportunities and AFEs, and helps prepare investor, lender, and Board materials.

The role works closely with Engineering, Land, Accounting, and Operations and provides analytical support for Company planning and decision-making.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Corporate Modeling

• Maintain and update the Company’s consolidated corporate financial model.
• Gather financial and operating assumptions from Accounting, Engineering, Operations, Land, and other functions.
• Incorporate approved assumptions into Company forecasts and financial projections.
• Support preparation of the annual budget, periodic forecasts, and public guidance.
• Develop scenario and sensitivity analyses under the direction of senior Finance leadership.
• Assist with long-range financial planning and other financial modeling activities.

Forecasting & Performance Analysis

• Analyze actual financial and operating performance relative to budget and forecast.
• Identify significant variances and assist in understanding underlying drivers.
• Prepare recurring financial analyses and management reporting.
• Update forecasts based on approved changes in operating, commodity, capital, and other assumptions.
• Work with Accounting to ensure actual financial results are appropriately reflected in Company models.

Corporate Development & Deal Underwriting

• Maintain the Company’s acquisition opportunity pipeline and related tracking.
• Prepare financial models and analyses supporting potential acquisitions, investments, and other business opportunities.
• Work closely with Engineering to incorporate production, reserve, capital, operating cost, and other technical assumptions into investment models.
• Work with Land to incorporate commercial terms and other transaction assumptions.
• Calculate investment returns and other relevant financial metrics.
• Perform sensitivity and scenario analyses to evaluate potential outcomes and risks.
• Update transaction models as assumptions and deal terms evolve.
• Prepare financial information and analyses for review by senior Finance leadership and the Company’s deal evaluation team.
• Support data room review, due diligence, and bid preparation for potential transactions.
• Perform look-back analyses comparing acquired asset performance to original underwriting.

AFE Analysis

• Prepare financial and economic analyses of proposed AFEs.
• Coordinate with Engineering and Land to understand technical and commercial assumptions.
• Evaluate projected returns, capital requirements, production assumptions, commodity pricing, and other relevant financial considerations.
• Prepare analysis supporting the Company’s established AFE review and approval process.
• Incorporate approved AFEs and related assumptions into Company forecasts and financial models.
• Track and analyze investment activity as requested.

Investor Relations & Earnings Support

• Support preparation of quarterly earnings materials, including releases, presentations, scripts, and Q&A materials.
• Maintain and update the Company’s investor presentation and other investor materials.
• Track peer-company performance and valuation, consensus estimates, and shareholder ownership.
• Prepare briefing materials for investor meetings, conferences, and roadshows.
• Assist with responses to investor and analyst inquiries in accordance with Regulation FD and the Company’s disclosure policies.

Hedging & Commodity Analysis

• Maintain the Company’s hedge position records, including volumes, pricing, instruments, and counterparties.
• Prepare hedge portfolio analyses, including hedged percentages, mark-to-market valuations, and evaluation of hedging alternatives.
• Monitor commodity prices, forward curves, and differentials relevant to the Company’s production.
• Support hedge execution and confirmation processes in accordance with the Company’s hedging policy and approval authorities.

Corporate Finance & Treasury

• Support capital structure, liquidity, capital allocation, and shareholder return analyses.
• Assist with semi-annual and interim borrowing base redeterminations, including lender presentations and supporting reserve, production, and financial data.
• Maintain liquidity and borrowing base availability forecasts.
• Track credit agreement covenants and hedging requirements and support quarterly compliance reporting with Accounting.

Management & Decision Support

• Prepare financial analyses supporting business and management decisions.
• Respond to financial analysis requests from senior Finance leadership.
• Support preparation of financial and analytical materials for executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
• Prepare quarterly PSU valuation and TSR calculations for review by senior Finance leadership.
• Perform ad hoc financial analysis as requested.

Financial Controls

• Perform assigned controls associated with the Company’s budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, hedging, and borrowing base processes.
• Tie out financial and operating data in earnings and investor materials to supporting records.
• Maintain appropriate documentation supporting models, assumptions, approvals, and changes.
• Complete required SOX control activities and provide documentation supporting internal and external testing.
• Follow established financial modeling, review, and approval procedures.
• Identify inconsistencies or potential errors in financial information and escalate matters as appropriate.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Engineering, Land, Operations, and Accounting to gather and understand information used in financial analyses.
• Develop an understanding of the Company’s operated and non-operated upstream oil and gas portfolio and the financial and operational drivers of Company performance.
• Build effective working relationships with functional subject matter experts.
• Ensure financial analyses appropriately incorporate approved technical, operating, and commercial assumptions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field required.
• CFA or progress toward the CFA designation a plus.
• Approximately 2–4 years of relevant experience in financial analysis, FP&A, investment analysis, corporate development, equity research, banking, oil and gas, or a related discipline preferred.
• Strong financial modeling and analytical capabilities.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience with financial forecasting, budgeting, or investment analysis preferred.
• Upstream oil and gas experience or familiarity with oil and gas economics preferred.
• Familiarity with commodity hedging, reserve-based lending, or capital markets preferred.
• Ability to work with large and complex datasets.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly and effectively.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multiple business functions.
• Sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential and material nonpublic information.

Compensation & Benefits

Annual Salary Range: $100,000 - $155,000
