Full-time faculty are expected to participate fully in departmental activities and college governance and hold regular office hours. Grade Starting salary range: $77,011.42 – $122,363.70 annually. Academic training and teaching experience will form the basis for salary computation as determined by placement on the regular salary schedule of the College. Primary Function The Assistant Professor, Emergency Medical Technologies is primarily responsible for teaching a variety of courses in the discipline of Emergency Medical Technologies; specifically for courses within the paramedic academy. Because Emergency Medical Education classes are TOP -coded for Career Technical Education ( CTE ), the selected candidate for the Assistant Professor, Emergency Medical Technologies must be willing to work with industry leaders in the community to maintain our courses’ relevance. Minimum Qualifications Must meet all qualifications listed under 1) and 3) below: 1. Must meet one of the sets of qualifications listed under a) through b) : a) Any bachelor’s degree or higher AND two years of professional experience in an allied health field. b) Any associate degree AND six years of professional experience in an allied health field. c) A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of the qualifications in either 1) or 2) above. You must complete and attach the Application for Equivalency form ( ), if you do not possess the specific minimum qualifications as stated above, which includes degrees that have not been awarded at the time of submitting the application . 2. Qualified by education and experience with at least 40 hours of documented teaching methodology instruction in areas related to methods, materials, and evaluation of instruction by time of appointment. Possession of one of the following certificates would meet this qualification: a) California State Fire Marshal ( CSFM ) “Fire Instructor 1A and 1B”. b) National Fire Academy ( NFA ) “Fire Service Instructional Methodology” course. c) National Association of EMS Educators Level 1 course. 3. Knowledgeable in the course content of the January 2009 United States Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT ) National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards DOT HS 811 077 E. Only coursework completed at, and degrees awarded by, accredited institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education will be considered as satisfying the minimum qualifications. Coursework and degrees that are completed outside of the United States are required to have transcripts evaluated (evaluation to U.S. equivalency and a course by course analysis) by an appropriate U.S. credentials evaluation service. ( AICE ) website at . NOTE : For professional experience, a “year” is defined as equivalent to 40 hours per week for 10 months. Professional experience includes Paramedic experience, or higher-level professional experience (i.e. Nursing or Physician experience). Preferred Qualifications Commitment to a student learning-centered college. Evidence of a strong commitment to remain current in Emergency Medical Technologies/paramedicine and its instructional program. Strong academic preparation in Emergency Medical Technologies, education or health services as evidenced by undergraduate and graduate-level coursework. Demonstrated interest and/or experience in engagement with the college and broader community. Experience with learning management systems or teaching distance/online education classes. Licenses and/or Certificates See Minimum Qualifications section above. In addition, must possess the following certificates/licenses by time of appointment: Current Paramedic or higher* license San Diego County accreditation as a Paramedic *Note: “ Higher” equals currently certified or licensed in the State of California as a physician, registered nurse, or physician assistant. Must be certified within the first year of employment in the following: Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals ( PEPP ) Provider certification (Instructor level preferred) In addition to the teaching responsibilities, other duties and institutional responsibilities include maintaining regular office hours, developing curriculum, program review and planning, developing and assessing student learning outcomes, and participating in department activities and college governance. Related duties include the following: Delivering instruction in accordance with the course objectives and learning outcomes set for the course, including practical skills, methods, theories and techniques. Developing and managing course curriculum, syllabus materials and lesson plans. Developing and maintaining effective industry partnerships. Providing academic and career advisement. Assisting with researching, writing and/or obtaining grants. Attending and participating in faculty meetings and/or departmental curricular meetings and events. Facilitating part time faculty evaluations, high school articulation, and textbook requirements (with an emphasis on zero-cost textbooks and open education resources). Assisting with community outreach. Maintaining knowledge of accreditation and national education standards. This is a full-time, 10 months per year, tenure-track position. Teaching assignments will include day, evening, and/or weekend classes at the San Marcos campus and/or off-campus locations as part of contract responsibilities, as well as distance education classes. The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements: live scan/fingerprinting, official transcript(s), TB risk assessment, and employment verification(s). Other pre-employment requirements may be required depending on the position (i.e. certifications or licenses; see applicable job posting section for details). Successful completion of all pre-employment requirements is mandatory to be eligible for employment.
