Network Engineer

Overview Our client is seeking a Sr Network Engineer to support the wired and wireless network infrastructure across 200+ buildings. This contract-to-hire role focuses on data center routing and seasoned network engineering work. The incoming engineer will take on meaningful ownership quickly, working alongside the current engineer to enable a more sustainable team structure as the organization expands toward 25 people and rebuilds its network architecture from the ground up. Responsibilities Daily responsibilities include designing, deploying, and maintaining enterprise network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls, VPCs, wireless); tier 2/3 troubleshooting; monitoring network telemetry; managing project life cycles from discovery through closure; maintaining technical documentation; and participating in an on‑call rotation (permanent employees only, contractors not on call). Qualifications Datacenter & advanced routing protocols: Hands‑on experience with high‑level routing protocols, specifically BGP. EVPN and VXLAN are preferred. Hardware/Software: Cisco, Arista, and/or Juniper/Junos CLI proficiency. Comfortable working entirely in the command line. Wired/Wireless Enterprise Networking: Solid LAN/WAN fundamentals and a working understanding of routing protocols. Wireless experience preferred but not required if routing experience is strong. Enterprise Infrastructure Experience: 4+ years in network administration/engineering; ideally in enterprise environments with complex, multi‑site infrastructure. High autonomy & self‑direction: Proactive, gives feedback, runs tasks independently without hand‑holding. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate’s degree or equivalent; 4+ years direct network engineering experience. Intermediate knowledge of WAN/LAN, DNS/DHCP, Layer 2/3, TCP/IP, Wi‑Fi, firewalls, ACLs. Strong verbal and written communication. Microsoft Azure networking services knowledge. Preferred Certifications CCNA, CCNP, ACMA, ACMP, AZ‑500, AZ‑900, Security+. Preferred Technical Skills Automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, GitLab). Network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Wireshark, Ekahau, Nmap, netflow, packet capture). Hybrid cloud experience; Linux and FreeRADIUS basics. Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Oracle Cloud). Key Attributes for Success Comfortable getting deep into configurations; works closely with a senior engineer who has high standards; receptive to direction and able to run independently. Compensation and Benefits Pay range: $44.00 – $50.00/hr.
