Research Lab Technician

Position Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, USC Keck School of Medicine – Research Laboratory Technician (full‑time, grant‑funded). Responsibilities Perform in vitro (cell culture) and in vivo (rodent) experiments to evaluate physiological and molecular effects of peptidic agents. Test a library of synthetic peptides for their immunomodulatory properties in infection and inflammatory disease models. Assist in animal experiments, including peptide treatments and data collection for clinical/in‑life presentation of disease (e.g., survivability, weight gain/loss, disease severity, mortality, morbidity). Collect post‑mortem indicators of disease such as bacterial or fungal burden. Obtain, maintain, and graph experimental data. Inoculate rodents with pathogens via intraperitoneal or intravenous injections and assist with drug treatment or placebo administration. Harvest organs, collect blood, and enumerate bacterial/fungal load as a function of peptide treatment. Maintain a rodent colony, measure weights, and record visual observations in inflammatory disease models. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; combined education/experience may satisfy minimum requirements. 6–12 months of laboratory experience; education/experience may serve as a substitute. Previous general scientific laboratory research practices and rodent animal handling preferred. Completion of animal tutorial training and certification in general laboratory safety required before work begins. Flexibility for work hours. Strong ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions. Salary & Benefits Hourly rate: $22.43 – $31.30. Competitive salary and benefit package. Position is grant‑funded.
