Position Summary
Our client is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to support patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and financial clearance activities within a large healthcare organization. This role serves as a key point of contact for patients and plays an important role in ensuring a smooth and positive patient experience while maintaining accurate records and compliance with healthcare regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist patients in person and over the phone
- Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments
- Register patients and maintain accurate demographic information
- Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, referrals, and authorizations
- Collect co-pays, deductibles, and outstanding balances
- Explain financial responsibilities and payment options to patients
- Obtain required consent and privacy documentation
- Coordinate with providers, clinical staff, and insurance companies to support patient care
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies
- Utilize electronic medical record (EMR/EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, or similar platforms
Required Skills
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment
- Knowledge of insurance verification processes and medical terminology
- Proficiency with computer systems and electronic medical records
- Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate degree or healthcare-related certification preferred
- 1–2 years of healthcare registration, scheduling, patient access, medical office, call center, or customer service experience preferred
- Experience with insurance verification, referrals, and prior authorizations preferred
