Reporting tothe Director of Social Media, this role is integral to buildingupon Northeastern's global brand presence while developing andmanaging communities relevant to the New York City campus. Nohigher education experience is needed. Job Summary The Social Media Specialist will identifyopportunities for ahead-of-the-curve social media moments andexecute ideas for graphics, videos, and other styles of contentthat are native to platforms and connect directly with audiences.The person in this role is responsible for understanding andengaging with Northeastern University's NYC community, preparingand posting organic content, monitoring socials for comments andmanaging interactions, and helping to develop and maintain adynamic content calendar. As a member of the talented, award-winningsocial media team embedded in the university's globalCommunications department, the Social Media Specialist willincrease engagement across all social platforms and build andmanage communities relevant to the New York City campus, whileadhering to university-wide best practices and policies thatelevate the Northeastern brand globally. The person in this roleshould be an avid consumer of information on social media platformsand adept at finding patterns, trends, and conversations happeningwithin the Northeastern community and in society at large, with theability to relate those trends back to the university's socialpresence and brand goals. This person will generate ideas for andexecute campaigns that promote connections, push boundaries whileremaining brand consistent, and surprise and delight audienceswhile moving at the speed of the internet. As social media operates around the clock, theSocial Media Specialist must be responsive, fast, thoughtful, andcreative when urgent situations arise. The position is based on theNYC campus and is fully on site, five days a week. Remote or hybridoptions are not available. As is the case for every member of theCommunications team, after-hours work, including weekends andholidays, is routinely required. Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities Use social media tools such as Sprinklr tooptimize content streams and engage target audiences and socialinfluencers Create and deliver analytics reportsdetailing social reach and engagement Build and manage online communities relevantto the NYC campus while adhering to university-wide bestpractices Monitor and respond to social mediaconversations in real time Qualifications and Accountabilities 2-3 years of experience creating content forbrands on social media; consumer-focused experience preferred.Higher education experience is not needed Strong familiarity with all major andup-and-coming social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok,YouTube, LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Snapchat, Reddit, Discord, Bluesky,and emerging platforms Ability to shoot and edit video for varioussocial media platforms, such as Meta, TikTok, and emergingplatforms Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (includingIllustrator, Premiere, and Photoshop) and/or other creativetools Ability to create visually appealing andon-brand graphics for all social media platforms Strong writing skills, with a deepunderstanding of the nuances of language and strong editorialjudgment Ability to interact with audiences online,answering questions and facilitating engagement Experience with data and the ability to useit to inform decisions Demonstrated ability to maintain and increasesocial media engagement Voracious social media consumer with apassion for discovering trends Positive, energetic, and adaptable attitude,since social media constantly changes and requires the ability tochange with it Demonstrated ability to build relationshipsand partner across an organization effectively Excellent communication skills and attentionto detail Strong work ethic and the ability tomultitask at a fast pace Sense of humor and authentic voice Salary Range $66,345 - $93,713 Annually With the pay range(s) shown above, the startingsalary will depend on several factors, which may include youreducation, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, andskills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employeesalready in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and aresubject to change.
