The Field Service Manager of Splicing is responsible for leading and overseeing all fiber optic splicing operations to support the successful deployment and maintenance of the company's fiber network infrastructure. This role manages contract splicing resources, ensures adherence to quality and safety standards, and drives the timely completion of projects within budget. The Field Manager of Splicing serves as a key liaison between field operations, engineering, construction, and project management teams, ensuring high-quality splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential Job Functions

• Lead, manage, and mentor fiber optic splicing contractors and field personnel, providing technical guidance, support, and performance oversight.
• Plan, coordinate, and monitor fiber optic splicing activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
• Conduct site assessments and review construction plans to develop effective splicing strategies that align with project requirements and environmental conditions.
• Oversee the installation, termination, and splicing of fiber optic cables, ensuring compliance with company standards, customer specifications, and industry best practices.
• Review and validate OTDR, power meter, and fiber test results to confirm network integrity and acceptance criteria are met.
• Troubleshoot fiber network issues, including signal degradation, continuity concerns, and splice-related defects, and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Construction, Project Management, and Operations teams to ensure seamless project execution and customer satisfaction.
• Manage contractor productivity, quality metrics, and project deliverables while ensuring adherence to established schedules and milestones.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including splice records, fiber test results, redlines, and as-built drawings.
• Support material planning, resource allocation, and forecasting to ensure efficient project execution.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, company policies, and quality assurance standards.
• Monitor industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to fiber optic splicing, testing, and network deployment to drive continuous improvement.

• In-depth knowledge of fiber optic splicing techniques, industry standards, and best practices.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve fiber optic cable issues.
• Excellent organizational and project management abilities, with the capability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Leadership skills and the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team of splicers.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Familiarity with relevant safety regulations and protocols for working with fiber optic cables.
• Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to project sites as required.
