Material Handler

The Material Handler operates a sit-down forklift and uses RF scanning technology to support efficient movement of materials throughout the warehouse. This role loads and unloads products from trailers, assists production operators with materials, and uses internal shipping systems as needed. The Material Handler inspects inbound and outbound products to ensure quality and accuracy, and serves as a team lead within the warehouse, guiding and coordinating a group of employees without direct managerial authority.

Responsibilities

• Operate a sit-down forklift safely and efficiently to move materials throughout the warehouse.
• Use RF scan guns to accurately track, locate, and record inventory and product movement.
• Load and unload products from trailers and stage materials in designated warehouse areas.
• Assist production operators with timely delivery and removal of materials to support ongoing manufacturing and assembly activities.
• Utilize internal shipping systems to process, label, and document outgoing and incoming shipments as needed.
• Inspect inbound and outbound products for damage, accuracy, and compliance with quality standards.
• Act as a team lead within the warehouse by coordinating daily tasks, supporting team members, and promoting safe and efficient work practices, without direct management responsibilities.
• Support general warehouse operations including material handling, shipping and receiving, and general labor tasks.
• Follow established production, warehouse, and shipping procedures to maintain a smooth workflow.
• Adhere to all safety policies, GMP guidelines, and facility rules while operating equipment and handling materials.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 6+ months of manufacturing or production experience.
• At least 1+ year of forklift experience, specifically with sit-down forklifts.
• Proficiency in operating a sit-down forklift in a warehouse or production environment.
• Ability to use RF scan guns and RF scanners to manage inventory and product tracking.
• Experience with material handling, shipping and receiving, and general warehouse operations.
• Capability to load and unload trailers and handle products safely and efficiently.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to follow GMP guidelines and established safety procedures.
• Strong attention to detail when inspecting inbound and outbound products.
• Ability to work collaboratively as a team lead, coordinating tasks and supporting coworkers.

• Experience in assembly and production environments.
• Experience in general labor within warehouse or manufacturing settings.
• Comfort using internal shipping systems and related documentation processes.
• Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with operators and warehouse staff.
• Ability to adapt to different shifts and training schedules.
• Willingness to follow detailed dress code and personal protective equipment requirements.

Work Environment

The facility manufactures bottles and caps for consumer products such as shampoo, conditioner, and mouthwash. The warehouse and production areas are very clean and temperature controlled, creating a comfortable and safe environment. Work is performed in accordance with GMP guidelines, which must be followed closely. The dress code requires steel-toed boots, long pants, and either jeans or khakis with a t-shirt. Employees receive ear plugs, hair nets, and other necessary protective equipment. Shifts include 1st shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 2nd shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with initial training conducted on 1st shift for one week.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Iowa City, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.50/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
