Responsibilities
- Evaluate energy-related projects or programs to reduce energy costs and improve energy efficiency prior to and during the designing, building, or remodeling stages of construction.
- Develop and conduct energy programing on the reservation, including grant management.
- Develop policies and procedures relevant to energy programing and energy management.
- Participate in review of energy projects to include but not limited to energy efficient specifications, electrical systems; heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems; green buildings; renewable energy; lighting; air quality; or energy procurement.
- Research, design, develop, engineer, inspect, and supervise the installation of energy equipment, components, or systems for residential, commercial, or industrial use.
- Operate computer-assisted design software or equipment to perform operation tasks.
- Review mechanical, electrical, HVAC, architectural drawings, engineering specifications, and request for proposals to ensure that installation and operations conform to code standards and customer requirements.
- Confer with band members, engineers, customers, or others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects or products.
- Supervise or coordinate construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, or testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements.
- Identify energy savings opportunities and make recommendations to achieve more energy efficient operation for Fond du Lac Band.
- Assist the Facilities Operations Director with the development, design, or construction of energy conservation projects to ensure acceptability of budgets and timelines, conformance to federal and state laws, or adherence to approved specifications and codes.
- Supervise and provide basic energy and alternative energy training and mentoring for staff and interns.
- Appropriate work attire is required on job sites: hard hat, steel-toed boots, safety glasses and safety vest.
- Must participate in and complete all mandatory department meetings and training courses.
- Ensures confidentiality of financial, employee, band member and/or clients records.
- Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
- Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
- Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
- Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.
Qualifications
- Valid Driver's License issued in the US required.
- BS degree in Environmental Policy and Planning or Civil Engineering is required. Master's degree is preferred.
- Five years of field experience in commercial, industrial, or institutional energy management, project management or project management engineering is required.
- Must have Building Operator Certification or be a Certified Energy Manager.
- Knowledge of state, tribal and federal government regulations preferred.
- Knowledge of Native American communities, culture, customs, and beliefs is preferred.
- Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, Excel, databases and/or data entry, and Microsoft 365 is required.
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology is preferred.
- Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming is preferred.
- Knowledge of building design principles, technical plans, blueprints and drawings is preferred.
- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications is preferred.
- Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships and applications to understanding fluid, material, atmospheric dynamics, mechanical, civil and electrical engineering concepts, structures and processes is preferred.
- Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions is preferred.
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems is preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
- Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
- Ability to manage several projects with detail and accuracy and complete tasks within deadlines is required.
- Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
- Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation's Personnel Policies.
- Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.
- Travel is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, pushing and pulling are required.
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, including work in adverse and extreme weather conditions.
