Mechanical Design Engineer Staff

Job Overview Mechanical Engineering Designer Staff for an Advanced Programs weapon program supporting Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) development. Responsible for detailed designs, layouts, and drawings of the air vehicle system, driving innovation and excellence. Key Responsibilities Lead mechanical design, creating detailed designs, layouts and drawings for components and sub‑assemblies. Develop and generate CREO layouts and detailed drawings for ICDs, components, sub‑assemblies, assemblies and integration test articles. Build BOMs, create parts, assemblies and design documentation within Windchill PLM. Coordinate with IPT teams, suppliers, GSC, electronic packaging and structural/thermal/material analysts to ensure design excellence. Manage drawing releases and CNs of the mechanical design team. Generate design review artifacts for subsystem and system‑level design assurance, PDRs and CDRs. Perform design trade studies to evaluate cost, weight, optical performance and structural/thermal benefits. Interface with avionics, structures, propulsion and subsystem manufacturers to ensure product integrity and meet requirements, performance and test parameters. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field. Minimum 5 years experience with Creo or similar 3D CAD software. Knowledge of GDT according to ASME Y14.5 and ability to perform complex system‑level tolerance analysis. Ability to generate engineering drawings, documents, parts lists and specifications. Ability to guide major projects to completion and engage with senior personnel on significant matters. Experience leading investigative efforts and reporting status to senior personnel. Desired Skills Hands‑on experience with machining, rapid prototyping or lab equipment (CNC, 3‑D printers, test rigs). Experience with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with Model‑Based Definition (MBD). Experience with aerospace hardware such as structures, optical or RF sensors, energetics, propulsion or flight control systems. Comprehensive understanding of the aerospace systems lifecycle from proposal to sustainment. Security Clearance Must be a U.S. citizen and hold a Secret security clearance.
