Police Dispatcher

Position Title Police Dispatcher II Job Category University Staff Employment Type Regular Department University Police Department Compensation $22.00 per hour Night Differential Pay Eligible for pay between 6:00PM and 6:00AM. Job Duties and Responsibilities Evaluate and act upon information and knowledge regarding safety, law enforcement, and the University in general. Communicate via radio, mobile data computer terminal, telephone, written correspondence, computer programs, and in‑person conversation, providing customer service. Coordinate emergency and non‑emergency communication between the UW Oshkosh Police Department and campus departments, other law enforcement agencies, fire departments, emergency medical units, and other agencies. Monitor alarm panels and multiple radio frequencies; act as the after‑hours emergency contact for the campus community. Operate police radios, phone consoles, and various equipment and technologies to receive and process requests and information from institutional affiliates, law enforcement, and other public safety agencies. Schedule logistics and secure resources for response to emergency incidents. Communicate effectively and provide accurate and detailed instructions to all audiences in high‑stress situations. Troubleshoot, triage, and elevate issues according to established policies and procedures. Document incidents accurately and adhere to applicable policies, rules, and regulations. Maintain complex records of information in directories and alarm databases, ensuring continuity of operations plans and up‑to‑date resources. Train new dispatchers, manage training task updates, and provide coaching and weekly reports. Assist with leading and coordinating projects. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. At least 2 years of experience in a customer‑service–related position. Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). Ability to perform varied tasks quickly, accurately, and simultaneously while under stress. Proficiency in recognizing and protecting confidential information. Positive attitude, proactive, and team oriented. Accurately detect and interpret essential visual and auditory signals required for safe and effective job performance while maintaining focus in environments with varying noise levels. Commitment to resilience, adaptability, and cultural competency in serving a diverse campus community. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree or higher college degree. Prior experience in a dispatch center or communications center. Knowledge of TIME system procedures and DOT/NCIC/CIB policies and guidelines. Some knowledge of police authority, judicial procedures, and law‑enforcement reporting requirements. Ability to operate communications systems, including two‑way radio dispatch equipment, multiple‑line telephone systems, MDC systems, and alarm systems.
