Cardiac/Vascular Sonographer (FGP) - Brooklyn

Position Summary The Cardiac/Vascular Sonographer (FGP) – Brooklyn is responsible for performing all cardiac and vascular ultrasound studies. This includes diagnostic echocardiograms, treadmill and pharmacological stress echocardiograms, ultrasound‑enhancing agent studies, agitated saline studies, carotid duplex, extremity duplex, abdominal aortic, renal artery, iliocaval, mesenteric duplex, plethysmography, and ankle‑brachial index studies. Job Responsibilities Demonstrates knowledge of NYU policies and protocols and incorporates them into the performance of duties. Performs all cardiac ultrasound studies, including echocardiograms, treadmill stress echocardiograms, pharmacological stress echocardiograms, and studies with ultrasound‑enhancing agents or agitated saline. Performs all vascular ultrasound studies, including carotid duplex, upper and lower extremity venous and arterial duplex studies, abdominal aortic studies, renal artery duplex studies, iliocaval duplex studies, mesenteric duplex studies, plethysmography, and ankle‑brachial index studies. Ensures all studies adhere to NYU protocols as well as IAC and ACR standards. Provides patient comfort and privacy, identifies self to the patient, verifies patient identity via ID bracelet or verbal acknowledgment, and explains the procedure and equipment clearly. Creates a preliminary report based on scan completion, documents scans according to departmental procedures, records all pertinent patient data, and uses good judgment when determining if the procedure was sufficient for proper diagnosis. Uses highly technical equipment to perform ultrasound studies. Alerts medical staff of abnormalities requiring immediate attention. Compares present echovascular studies to previous studies to monitor changes in status. Assists with maintaining accreditation compliance and documentation (IAC or ACR) and submits appropriate studies to management for accreditation application. May require lifting, pushing, or moving patients and equipment over 150 pounds, with or without assistive devices. Carries out assignments within realistic time frames. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associate’s degree in a related field or completion of an accredited program in cardiac and vascular ultrasound. Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) and Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or with Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) and Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS). One credential is required, with the second to be obtained within one year of hire. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). Must maintain active registry status. Required Licenses Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer CT, Registered Vascular Technologist – Certified, Cardiovascular Credentialing International, American Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
