Duties Summary

The Airport Maintenance Repairer I performs a variety of skilled maintenance and repair work in the upkeep of the facilities, equipment, and aircraft operational and other areas of a primary airport; and performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualification Requirements

To qualify, applicants must meet ALL of the following requirements: Experience and Training: Four (4) years of work experience in performing a variety of building maintenance and equipment repair work or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Knowledge of: Basic practices and methods used in building and equipment maintenance and repair, including safety procedures; and common tools, equipment, and materials used in the carpentry, painting, plumbing, and masonry trades. Ability to: Determine need for repairs involving a variety of building trades; use hand tools utilized in a variety of building trades; read blueprints and sketches; estimate time and material needed to perform typical repairs; make mechanical repairs to equipment and appliances of a primary airport following manufacturer's manual; understand and follow oral and written instructions, including learning operational requirements and rules/regulations of a primary airport pertinent to the work. Physical and Medical Requirements: Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily. Handicaps in these or other areas will not automatically result in disqualification. Those applicants who demonstrate that they are capable of performing the essential functions of the position will not be disqualified under this section. Any condition which would cause applicants to be a hazard to themselves or others is cause for disqualification. Driver's License: Possession of a valid State of Hawaii Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Type A must be obtained within six (6) months of the date of hire. Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Clearance - Federal Criminal History Records Check: In accordance with Federal regulations, persons who are being considered for employment in positions which require unescorted access to secured areas at the airport must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history record check. In order to be granted the SIDA clearance, prospective employees must not have been convicted, or found "not guilty by reason of insanity," of a disqualifying criminal offense within ten years from the date of the application. Upon recommendation for hire, prospective employees will be required to successfully undergo the fingerprint-based criminal history record check and be found free of disqualifying convictions during the preceding ten years.
