The Deputy Director of Maintenance supports the Director of Maintenance in the overall leadership, management, coordination, and execution of maintenance operations. The position provides day-to-day oversight of maintenance shop supervisors, monitors maintenance performance, ensures effective communication across the organization, and serves as the acting Director of Maintenance when the Director is unavailable.

The Deputy Director works closely with maintenance leadership, program management, customers, stakeholders, and NASA representatives to ensure maintenance activities are performed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, contractual requirements, and mission objectives.

CORE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Deputy Director of Maintenance Leadership

Assist the Director of Maintenance with the overall management and direction of maintenance operations.

Monitor maintenance performance, productivity, staffing, workload, equipment, and operational readiness.

Identify operational risks, resource constraints, and emerging issues and develop appropriate corrective actions.

Ensure consistent application of maintenance policies, procedures, standards, and best practices.

Support continuous improvement initiatives designed to improve safety, quality, reliability, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Manage Shop Supervisors

Provide direct leadership and oversight of shop supervisors and their respective maintenance organizations.

Establish clear expectations, priorities, and performance standards for supervisors.

Conduct regular reviews of shop workload, staffing, schedule, equipment, material requirements, and outstanding maintenance activities.

Ensure supervisors maintain effective control of daily operations and communicate issues requiring management attention.

Promote accountability, teamwork, professional development, and effective workforce management.

Assist supervisors in resolving personnel, operational, scheduling, and technical challenges.

Daily Shop Status Report

Coordinate and oversee the preparation and distribution of the Daily Shop Status Report.

Ensure reports accurately reflect shop workload, manpower, maintenance status, critical activities, delays, constraints, and outstanding issues.

Review shop status information for accuracy and identify trends or issues requiring leadership attention.

Consolidate information from individual shops into an overall maintenance operational picture.

Ensure critical issues are elevated promptly to the Director of Maintenance and appropriate stakeholders.

Track key maintenance performance indicators and provide management with meaningful operational data.

Analyze trends, performance metrics, workload, staffing, schedule, and resource information to support decision-making.

Assist in developing briefings, dashboards, presentations, and executive-level reports as required.

Acting Director of Maintenance

Serve as Acting Director of Maintenance during the Director's absence or as otherwise designated.

Assume responsibility for maintaining continuity of maintenance operations and leadership.

Make timely operational decisions within delegated authority.

Represent the Maintenance organization in internal and external meetings when required.

QUALIFICATIONS
US Citizenship required.

A bachelor’s degree in engineering is required. The candidate must have ten (10) to twelve (12) years of relevant experience, with core skills in budgeting, scheduling, and stakeholder management and communications. As an equivalent, the candidate may possess a Master’s degree in the same fields with eight (8) to ten (10) years of relevant experience, with core skills in budgeting, scheduling, and stakeholder management and communications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Work Environment:
Office environment. (95%)

Test facilities and active construction sites - May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, chemicals, and industrial facility environments (35%)

Travel between offices and various facilities within the NASA center is required (25%)

Physical Requirements:
Must have sufficient mobility to enter active construction sites and all areas of test facilities (20%)

Construction sites are commonly areas of high noise levels due to construction equipment and facility test operations. (35%) Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions.

Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs (20%)

Equipment and Machines:
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.) (80%)

Software-Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Microsoft Project, MAXIMO (100%).
Safety and Personal Protective Equipment (35%)

Attendance:
Regular attendance mandatory (100%)
Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (5% - 20%)

The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client organization.

Must be able to balance scope, schedule, and budget to ensure program success.

Employees will exercise diligence when developing a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) for each task performed. Your SPA is a Company provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents, accidents, and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you are required to use.
