Consulting Psychiatrist

We're seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Consulting Psychiatrist to provide direct psychiatric care and consultation services during the academic year. This is a part-time, hourly position requiring a minimum of 15 hours per week with at least half of those hours conducted on-site.

The Consulting Psychiatrist will provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, treatment planning, and collaborative care in a multidisciplinary mental health setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct psychiatric diagnostic assessments and medication evaluations for student patients
• Develop and manage individualized treatment plans
• Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications, including follow-up appointments
• Collaborate in co-treatment models with counselors and other mental health providers
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
• Adhere to SUNY Geneseo's clinical protocols and APA Standards of Practice
• Support the development of high-quality psychiatric services through ethical decision-making and clinical expertise

Minimum Qualifications

• M.D. or equivalent from an accredited medical school
• Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency
• Licensed to practice medicine in the State of New York
• Board Certification in Psychiatry
• Minimum of 3 years of clinical psychiatry experience
• Active DEA registration for prescribing controlled substances
• Ability to obtain and maintain clinical credentials and privileges as required
• Capability to perform psychiatric duties in line with institutional and professional standards

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with college-age populations or in a university setting
• Proficiency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems
• Demonstrated multicultural competency in clinical settings
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent clinical judgment, critical thinking, and time management skills
