Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 14 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a progressive care, medical/surgical acute care, or telemetry setting License: Compact or state license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Progressive Care experience - Experience with EKG - Ability to interpret dysrhythmias - Experience with managing dysrhythmias - Experience in post TPA care - Pre/Post neurosurgery experience - familiarity with seizure disorders - Experience with spinal cord injury - Knowledge of telemetry - Experience with traumatic brain injury - Neuro/stroke experience is preferred Description: Candidates will be required to work 5-6 weekend shifts per 6-week period. This position is for a stroke progressive care unit with the possibility of floating to other units if needed. A compact or state license is required. Experience in progressive care, medical/surgical acute care, or telemetry is essential. Must hold current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications. ICU experience is a plus. Candidates must be able to work weekends and holidays. Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted for this position. Staffing and scheduling will be self-scheduled. Patient ratios are typically 4:1 during all shifts. Patient age groups include adults and geriatrics. The unit has a total of 32 beds. Interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and pharmacy. Common patient diagnoses include hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes, traumatic head injuries, brain tumors, spine surgeries, seizures, and other neurological disorders. Special procedures include managing fresh TPA, lumbar drains, and drips that do not require titration. Compliance requirements include BLS, ACLS, EKG onboarding exam, NIHSS, math exam, and progressive care competency exam. Completed modules are required annually and vary by specialty.
