Job Description Summary The Clinical Lead Cardiac Sonographer will function as the Technical Lead of the Echocardiography Outpatient Department at 2 Bon Air, while also performing echocardiograms and related testing. This role provides general supervision of technical staff at offsite outpatient testing centers, delegates responsibilities, oversees scheduling and recordkeeping, maintains equipment, ensures staff compliance with Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) standards, supports quality assurance and clinical correlation, and collaborates with the Medical Director and medical staff to ensure quality patient care and appropriate technical training. Job Specifications Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions: Education Associates Degree required, Bachelors Degree Preferred. Experience Requires a minimum of two years of recent echo experience in an acute care setting. Incumbent must have worked under the guidelines of the Intersocietal Accreditation Society and the American Society of Echocardiography. Demonstrated clinical expertise with transthoracic and stress echocardiography. License And Certifications American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, RDCS Current BLS American Society of Echocardiography membership preferred. Prerequisite Skills Knowledge of Safe practices Knowledge of and adherence to company and departmental policies and procedures Knowledge and proper use and maintenance of ultrasound equipment Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology Knowledge of use of computers for electronic medical records, DICOM format and PACS systems Patient Privacy (HIPAA Compliance) Employees in this position have access to protected health information. This position requires patient health information to perform the functions outlined in this position description. Duties And Responsibilities Essential (Not Modifiable) Performs all routine and critical echocardiography procedures with competency and in accordance with physician orders. Provides clinical and technical support to staff and physicians. Role model for coordinating and integrating interdepartmental services. Identifies problems and suggests plans for successful resolution. Ensures staff compliance with IAC standards and CARES values. Organizes daily work schedule and coordinates with other staff to ensure maximum efficiency. Supervises technical staff to assure safe and efficient daily performance of the department. Maintains a monthly schedule reflecting safe staffing levels while minimizing overtime and registry use. Responds to staff shortages as required with minimal impact on services and ensures qualified staffing. Performs and assists Practice Administrator with performance evaluations. Provides input through direct observations of technical staff performance for timely evaluations. Participates in orientation, in-service training and continuing education of technical personnel; maintains competency files. Demonstrates leadership traits and ability to adapt to change; fosters a proactive, professional environment. Drives initiatives to create innovative programs and improve department services and performance. Develops daily work schedules to maximize efficiency and clinical focus; coordinates with staff and adapts pacing to patient needs. Supports and empowers staff to align with organizational mission and values; maintains clear communication with physicians, staff, and administration. Maintains organization, flexibility, and composure under stress; stays current with trends in the field. Organizes staff training, prepares reports for departmental Quality Assurance meetings, and participates in policy development and departmental records. Acts as department representative on facility committees and supports special projects as needed. Identifies personal strengths and limitations and seeks assistance when scope of licensure or competence is exceeded. Assists Practice Administrator with monitoring departmental productivity and ensures accurate and timely billing. Advocates for the department within the organization and maintains a professional work environment. Assists with planning and yearly need assessment for the departmental budget. Participates in vendor selection for equipment and services following hospital purchasing policies. Secondary (Modifiable) Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations and streamline processes. Performs other duties as required or assigned. Reinforces safe departmental practices. Identifies educational needs and participates in continuing education consistent with licensure standards. Provides input to assist in departmental growth, teaching, monitoring progress, and outcome evaluation. Contributes to quality assurance and improvement of the echocardiography lab. Participates in review of department outcomes including clinical, patient satisfaction, and operational results. Demonstrates financial awareness through responsible use of equipment and supplies. Attends 80% of staff meetings and trainings required by department and company.
