Safety Supervisor Oil & Gas Electrical & Line Work Job Title: Safety Supervisor Industry: Oil & Gas Work Location: Carlsbad, NM / Hobbs, NM Work Area: Electrical & Line Work Reports To: HSE Manager Employment Type: Full-Time Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Safety Supervisor to support oil and gas electrical and line-work operations in the Carlsbad and Hobbs, New Mexico areas. The Safety Supervisor will provide hands-on field safety leadership, ensuring employees and contractors perform work safely and in compliance with company policies, OSHA requirements, applicable electrical safety standards, and ExxonMobil requirements. The ideal candidate will have proven oil and gas safety experience, and a strong understanding of electrical and line-work hazards . This position requires an individual who is comfortable working directly with field personnel, supervisors, electricians, and line crews in an active oil and gas environment. Required Qualifications Minimum 35 years of Safety/HSE experience in the oil and gas, electrical construction, utility, or industrial construction industry. Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and applicable electrical safety requirements. Working knowledge of NFPA 70E and electrical safe-work practices. Experience supporting electrical and line crews in an oil and gas environment. Experience conducting JHAs/JSAs, safety inspections, audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations. Must be capable of exercising Stop Work Authority when unsafe conditions exist. Must reside in or be based out of Carlsbad, NM or Hobbs, NM. Ability to travel between local job sites as required. Key Responsibilities Provide daily field safety oversight for electrical and line-work activities. Conduct daily site inspections and identify potential hazards before work begins. Ensure employees and contractors comply with company, client, and OSHA. Monitor electrical work involving power distribution, electrical equipment, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, generators, and related systems. Monitor overhead and underground line work , including installation, maintenance, repair, and removal activities. Ensure proper implementation of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and electrical isolation procedures. Verify that employees understand and follow approved JHAs, JSAs, Safe Work Permits, and Pre-Task Plans. Monitor compliance with electrical safe-work practices, minimum approach distances, grounding, and PPE requirements. Ensure proper use of arc-flash PPE, FR clothing, electrical gloves, fall protection, eye/face protection, and task-specific PPE. Monitor work involving aerial lifts, bucket trucks, pole work, rigging, lifting, and work at heights. Monitor excavation and underground utility activities associated with electrical and line work. Conduct and participate in daily Toolbox Talks, Job Safety Meetings, and Pre-Task Safety Meetings . Promote and enforce Stop Work Authority . Identify unsafe acts and conditions and work with supervisors and crews to implement corrective actions. Conduct and assist with incident, near-miss, property-damage, and environmental investigations. Maintain accurate safety documentation, inspection reports, incident reports, and corrective-action records. Verify that subcontractors and contractors comply with applicable safety requirements. Assist with emergency response planning, drills, and emergency procedures. Provide safety coaching and mentoring to employees, supervisors, foremen, electricians, and line crews. Communicate safety concerns, trends, and corrective actions to project and HSE management. Maintain a strong safety culture while supporting efficient field operations. Electrical & Line Work Safety Responsibilities The Safety Supervisor must be knowledgeable about the hazards associated with: Electrical power distribution Overhead electrical line work Underground electrical line work Energized and de-energized electrical systems Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Electrical isolation and verification Arc-flash and electrical shock hazards Electrical grounding and bonding Minimum approach distances Bucket trucks and aerial lifts Fall protection Crane and lifting operations near electrical lines Excavation and underground utilities Temporary power Electrical testing and maintenance Oil and gas production facilities Hazardous locations H2S and other oilfield hazards Hot work and fire hazards Simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) Preferred Certifications & Training OSHA 30-Hour Construction or General Industry NFPA 70E First Aid/CPR/AED H2S Electrical Safety Training UA/BAT Testing Skills & Abilities Strong field leadership and communication skills. Excellent hazard-recognition and risk-assessment abilities. Ability to communicate effectively with electricians, line crews, foremen, supervisors, management, and client representatives. Strong knowledge of electrical and line-work safety. Ability to read and understand JHAs, JSAs, permits, work procedures, and safety plans. Strong documentation and organizational skills. Computer skills required Ability to investigate incidents and identify root causes. Ability to enforce safety requirements professionally and consistently. Ability to make sound decisions in high-risk situations. Strong commitment to employee safety and environmental protection. Work Location Requirement Candidate must reside in or be based out of: Carlsbad, New Mexico , or Hobbs, New Mexico Physical & Work Requirements Ability to work outdoors in an oil and gas field environment. Ability to walk construction and industrial sites for extended periods. Ability to navigate uneven terrain and access elevated work areas. Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods. Ability to work around electrical equipment, heavy equipment, vehicles, and active oil and gas operations. Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and extended schedules as project requirements dictate. Ability to travel between Carlsbad and Hobbs-area job sites.
