Senior Mechanic

Maintenance Mechanic

This position repairs, alters, constructs, modifies, and uses all acceptable methods and practices to provide routine and preventative maintenance in a normally acceptable fashion established by supervision.

(25%) Works from verbal and written orders, sketches, drawings and manufacturer's specifications.

(25%) Performs programmed and preventative maintenance. Installs, lubricates and repairs machinery, mechanical, and other equipment.

(25%) Lays out, constructs, alters, repairs buildings and grounds including, but not limited to, partitions, doors, floors, concrete forms, plumbing fixtures, etc. using skills in plumbing, masonry, carpentry, refrigeration and electricity, gardening, yard, and grounds maintenance.

(25%) Uses necessary tools, machines and equipment pertinent to the work performed. Must be familiar and comply with all governing agencies, i.e., TJC, MIOSHA, Michigan Department of Community Health, Fire Marshal, codes, regulations and procedures pertaining to the overall maintenance operation such as refrigeration, building, electricity, powerhouse, fire, and safety.

Other Duties And Responsibilities

Works alone or with more experienced maintenance personnel.

Instructs and/or helps less experienced maintenance personnel.

Lends and is a helper to other maintenance skills as required and/or directed.

Copes with and handles discrepancies and variations from regular system or procedures, which may occasionally arise.

Maintains records. Performs other duties as required.

Required Education

Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent Experience:

Education Specialization: GENSTUDY

Other Information

Knowledge of blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical equipment as normally acquired through experience, trade, or vocational school and/or established training program.

Two years experience in the classification of Mechanic required.

Ability to test, operate and repair mechanical and electrical equipment and systems.

Ability to interpret prints, schematics, specifications, and codes.

Ability to work indoors or outdoors in all weather.

Job requires a regard for and significant adherence to quality workmanship.

Physical/Mental Requirements And Typical Working Conditions :

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as trauma, grief and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing are necessary with or without assisted device(s).

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time.

May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.

Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling.

May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level: Heavy. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 51-100 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 50 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% of the workday) 20 lbs.
