Job Overview Burke County Schools – Forest Hill Elementary School in Morganton, North Carolina. Position Elementary Teacher (Grades K‑5). Full‑time, 10‑month contract, starting August17,2026. Job Purpose We are seeking a passionate, student‑centered teacher to create an engaging learning environment that supports students’ intellectual, social, and emotional development. The role requires strong classroom management, subject‑matter expertise, and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school culture. Key Responsibilities Develop lesson plans and instructional materials using effective teaching strategies. Maintain effective classroom management, recognize and address learning and behavior issues, and differentiate instruction to meet all learners’ needs. Evaluate student accomplishments through multiple assessment methods and provide progress and interim reports. Communicate with parents, students, staff, and community in a timely and constructive manner. Protect students, materials, and facilities by taking necessary precautions. Uphold and enforce district policies, goals, administrative procedures, and school rules. Adhere to health and safety policies and maintain appropriate work habits. Remain current in subject‑matter knowledge and learning theory; attend workshops, PLCs, and staff development sessions. Respect confidentiality of records in accordance with professional ethics and laws. Share responsibility for student supervision during the school day. Perform non‑instructional duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Lead in the classroom and profession; advocate for schools and students. Create a respectful, inclusive environment for diverse populations. Align instruction with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and subject content. Use varied instructional methods, integrate technology, and support critical thinking and teamwork. Reflect on practice, analyze student learning, and link growth to goals. Qualifications Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Teaching license. Bachelor’s degree from an approved education program in the subject area. Strong background in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and essential standards. Ability to perform essential functions of the job; reasonable accommodations may be made. Physical Requirements Occasional exertion up to 10 pounds. Requires speaking, hearing, and use of hands for repetitive motions; standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and occasional exposure to weather.
