The 3rd Shift Filler Operator sets up, operates, and monitors automated filling and packaging equipment that handles pasteurized dairy products. This role focuses on accurately filling, marking, and labeling containers, ensuring product quality, and maintaining consistent production flow in a refrigerated food manufacturing environment.

• Operate and tend multiple filling and packaging machines, including 30 Valve filler, Quart filler, Nep filler, Bulk filler, 18 Valve plastic filler, and 1/2 Gallon paper filler.
• Set up machines for production by placing containers on the equipment and adjusting settings for various container sizes and product types.
• Fill jugs and other containers with milk and related pasteurized products according to production specifications.
• Monitor the flow of milk and other products into machines and promptly remove defective or improperly filled containers.
• Examine containers from all lines to verify proper seals, labels, weights, dates, and valves, ensuring they meet quality and regulatory standards.
• Inspect seals on the top and bottom of containers for stains and verify that valves are free from excess leakage.
• Review product changes with the laboratory or quality team and obtain approvals for each product change on each machine before continuing production.
• Observe machine operations continuously to detect malfunctions, irregularities, or safety concerns.
• Stop machines when issues arise and notify the foreman or supervisor of any mechanical problems or production abnormalities.
• Perform basic in-process inspections and quality checks at regular intervals to maintain consistent product quality.
• Record information at 15-minute intervals, including weights, dates, and label details, to maintain accurate production and quality documentation.
• Assist with basic adjustments and minor corrections to machines to maintain efficient operation and reduce downtime.
• Follow established procedures for batching, filling, marking, and labeling containers to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area around the filling and packaging equipment in accordance with food manufacturing standards.
• Comply with all food safety, sanitation, and quality guidelines while working in a dairy production environment.

Proven ability to operate production and filling machines in a manufacturing or food manufacturing environment.

• Experience with filling machines and packaging equipment, including operating, monitoring, and adjusting machinery.
• Capability to fill jugs and containers with milk or other pasteurized products accurately and efficiently.
• Skill in filling, marking, and labeling containers in accordance with production and quality requirements.
• Basic math skills to perform weight checks, verify quantities, and complete production records.
• Basic computer skills to enter data, record production information, and interact with simple computer-based systems.
• Attention to detail when inspecting containers for seals, labels, weights, dates, and valves.
• Ability to identify defective containers and product irregularities and remove them from the production line.
• Strong observational skills to detect machine malfunctions and irregular operations quickly.
• Capability to work safely and effectively in a refrigerated food manufacturing environment around dairy and other common allergens.

Prior experience in food manufacturing or dairy production environments.

• Familiarity with batching processes and packaging operations.
• Experience performing routine quality checks and documenting findings at regular intervals.
• Comfort collaborating with laboratory or quality personnel to obtain approvals for product changes.
• Ability to follow standard operating procedures and written instructions consistently.
• Strong communication skills to report issues promptly to supervisors or foremen.
• Organizational skills to maintain accurate and timely production and quality records.

This role is based in a refrigerated food manufacturing facility that processes dairy and other products. You work near milk and other common allergens such as eggs and nuts, following strict food safety and sanitation standards. The position operates on the 3rd shift, requiring comfort with overnight or late-night hours. You will work around automated filling and packaging equipment, moving between multiple machines and production lines while maintaining cleanliness and organization in a cold production environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Williamsburg, VA. The pay range for this position is $20.50 - $21.00/hr.
