Job Summary

Pagosa Springs Medical Center in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, is seeking an experienced Medical Surgical Registered Nurse for a 13-week travel assignment. This role involves providing comprehensive observation and inpatient care to a diverse adult patient population within the Medical Surgical Unit.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, and ensuring continuity of care to optimize patient outcomes and prevent readmissions. This position requires a commitment to patient safety, quality care, and effective communication in a dynamic hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, develop individualized care plans, and implement nursing interventions in accordance with physician orders and scope of practice.
• Administer medications, IV therapy, oxygen therapy, and blood products accurately and timely.
• Monitor and reassess patient conditions, documenting changes and reporting abnormal findings to the appropriate provider.
• Operate and manage medical equipment, including infusion pumps, ensuring accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Provide thorough patient and family education on disease processes, treatment plans, medication management, pain control, wound care, discharge planning, and follow-up care.
• Utilize SBAR for effective hand-off communication during patient transfers.
• Adhere strictly to infection prevention practices, universal precautions, and National Patient Safety Goals.
• Maintain patient confidentiality, uphold patient rights, dignity, and privacy at all times.
• Collaborate effectively with providers, nursing staff, and other departments to ensure cohesive interdisciplinary patient care.
• Serve as a mentor to less experienced nursing staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program.
• Minimum of five (5) years of recent experience in Medical Surgical or Emergency Room nursing.
• Prior travel nursing experience.
• Proficiency with Cerner Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
