Medical Assistant Position at Mass General Brigham Medical Group Northern Massachusetts, Inc.

We are seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to join our practice, working 40 hours per week. The practice is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM at our 250 Paradise Road location in Swampscott, MA. The position will consist of 8-hour shifts, with start and end times staggered within the practice's operating hours. This Medical Assistant will be paired 1:1 with a provider helping to support a high-volume ambulatory family medicine practice. The ideal candidate will have completed a Medical Assistant training program or possess at least one year of professional Medical Assistant experience and hold a national MA certification (AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT).

The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Essential Functions:

• Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
• Shows patients to examination rooms, prepares necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interviews patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
• Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
• Performs general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
• Collects blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, logs them, and prepares them for testing; performs phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
• Maintains inventory of immunizations and checks expiration dates.
• Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
• Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred.

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.

Licenses and Credentials: Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] preferred. Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] preferred.

Experience: Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required.

Strongly Preferred:

• Medical Assistant Course or diploma program or a minimum of 1 year professional experience.
• National MA Certification via AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT.
• Epic experience.
• Ambulatory/Outpatient experience.
• Primary Care experience.
