Job Description
Job Title: Certified Respiratory Therapist

Graduate of a COARC approved Respiratory Care Program


Description:
The Certified Respiratory Therapist is responsible for administering safe and competent respiratory care as ordered by the physician.
Emphasis is placed on specialty areas such as Emergency, Neonatal, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Critical Care.
Duties include monitoring mechanical ventilation, administering medications, and patient assessment.
Understanding the ramifications of hemodynamic monitoring and blood work results is essential.
The therapist will also be responsible for monitoring, teaching, and training patients.


Essential Functions and Basic Duties:
Competently deliver all Respiratory Care procedures as outlined in the department policy and procedure manual.
Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all procedures per department policy.
Verify physician's orders related to Respiratory Care.
Provide and receive accurate and complete reports.
Update and maintain patient information to reflect current clinical status.
Preparedness for report at specified times is required.
Attend and participate in department in-services, meetings, and mandatory sessions.
Keep supervisors informed of changes in workload and patient acuity.
Enter daily services and charges given to patients in the department's computer system.
Demonstrate excellent working knowledge of Respiratory Care instruments and equipment.
Perform troubleshooting with appropriate problem resolution.
Execute effective airway management including bag/mask ventilation.
Assist with intubation procedures as needed.
Demonstrate safe and appropriate suction techniques and use of artificial airways.
Assist in the orientation and training of new employees and students.
Perform arterial blood gas draws as required.
Initiate, maintain, and monitor ventilator patients.
Interpret flow volumes and pressure volume curves to initiate appropriate clinical changes.
Complete required continuous training and education, including department-specific requirements.
Comply with personal protective equipment requirements to ensure safety.
Perform patient charge reconciliation accurately.
Responsible for verifying accuracy and timely submission of time for payroll preparation.
Possess working knowledge of all cardiopulmonary equipment related to training and education.
Proficiently perform all assigned modalities provided by cardiopulmonary.
Demonstrate ability to adjust medication doses for neonatal and pediatric patients.
Assess geriatric patients for special needs related to respiratory care.
Ability to fully assess patient respiratory status and make recommendations for appropriate therapeutic interventions.
Use charting techniques to document status, progress, and effect of therapeutics.
Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
Perform other duties as assigned.
