Registered Nurse (RN)
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct and in-direct patient care by adhering to the nursing process in a collaborative environment, promoting optimal patient outcomes through evidence-based practice, care coordination, and patient and family engagement.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provides safe and effective nursing care based on assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient needs across the care continuum.
- Administers medications, perform treatments, and document care activities in accordance with Health First's policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care, participate in rounds, and support discharge planning.
- Applies critical thinking to promptly identify changes in patient condition and initiate the appropriate interventions.
- Educates patients and families using teach-back to promote engagement in care and safe transitions.
- Adheres to safety protocols and infection prevention practices to protect patients and Associates.
- Utilizes Health First technology systems to enter clinical documentation and care plans.
- Participates in quality improvement, patient safety, and High Reliability Organization (HRO) initiatives.
- Supports precepting, mentoring, and onboarding of new Associates and students as appropriate.
- Promotes a culture of purpose, rounding, and communication at the bedside (e.g., whiteboard use, bedside shift report).
Work Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Associate's degree in Nursing (ASN) or Nursing Diploma.
- Work Experience: Meets unit specific care requirements; new graduates taken under consideration based on the needs of the unit.
- Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Florida or endorsement.
- Certification:
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained.
- Additional certifications to meet unit specific care requirements (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, NIHSS).
- Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in EMR systems and patient documentation.
- Demonstrated initiative in quality and patient safety improvements.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in complex environments.
- Must maintains compliance with competency validations and continuing education.
- Demonstrate flexibility, reliability, and a commitment to a collaborative work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN).
- Work Experience: One (1) year or more of acute care or specialty setting.
- Certification: National certification in specialty area (e.g., CCRN, CMSRN, CEN).
Physical Requirements
- Physically agile; requires walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching majority of the shift.
- Heavy work that frequently includes lifting or moving objects up to 100 pounds or more with or without assistance.
- May require moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders or overhead.
- May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
- May be exposed to inside environments and outside environments with extreme temperatures, air contamination, dirt, grease, or water.
- May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
- May operate various types of manual and motorized equipment used in the transportation of materials.
- May be exposed to intense noise or vibration and awkward or confined work position.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
- Workspace may vary from open to confined.
- May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
