Production Expediter - PE RFT Indirect Labor Milford, MA, US 10 days ago Requisition ID: 1202 Salary Range: $70,000.00 To $78,000.00 Annually Job Title: Production Expediter Department: Operations / Production Reports To: Director of Operations Effective/Revision Date: September-2026 Role Purpose The Production Expediter is responsible for actively monitoring and accelerating the flow of customer orders through PEI’s manufacturing operations to support on-time delivery. This hands-on role works closely with Production and cross-functional teams to track work-in-process, identify and resolve delays, communicate priorities, and ensure critical and time-sensitive orders progress through production as planned. Scope & Responsibilities Key Responsibilities Perform assigned duties in accordance with documented procedures and work instructions. Review open orders, production priorities, work-in-process, and customer due dates daily to identify jobs requiring immediate attention or follow-up. Maintain a strong daily presence on the production floor, actively following jobs through manufacturing operations and verifying actual status against ERP information and production priorities. Expedite priority, late, past-due, and time-sensitive customer orders through the manufacturing process while balancing established production priorities and other customer commitments. Proactively identify jobs at risk of missing scheduled completion or customer delivery dates and immediately communicate concerns to Production Supervisors and Operations leadership. Track and coordinate the movement of jobs through key photochemical etching operations, including Surface Preparation, Coat, Print, Develop, Etch, Strip, Rinse/Dry, and applicable secondary operations. Regularly follow up with operators, Production Supervisors, and department leads to determine the status of priority jobs and ensure established priorities are understood and being acted upon. Identify bottlenecks, stalled jobs, missing information, material shortages, equipment issues, quality holds, engineering questions, or other conditions preventing jobs from progressing and coordinate with the appropriate resources to resolve or elevate them. Provide Operations leadership with timely and accurate updates regarding critical orders, overdue jobs, production delays, bottlenecks, and recovery actions. Work closely with Production Supervisors and Operations leadership to communicate changing priorities and help coordinate job sequencing based on customer requirements, available capacity, equipment availability, and production conditions. Coordinate closely with Customer Service and Sales to provide accurate, real-time information regarding order status, anticipated delays, recovery efforts, and changes that may affect customer delivery commitments. Work with Engineering and Quality to expedite resolution of technical questions, first-piece requirements, inspection requirements, nonconformances, quality holds, or other issues preventing production from proceeding. Coordinate with Purchasing regarding material shortages, outside processing, vendor-related delays, or other supply constraints affecting production schedules. Monitor production readiness to identify whether required materials, tooling, documentation, drawings, routings, and other necessary information are available before jobs reach scheduled operations. Maintain accurate job-status, due-date, routing, and production information within the company ERP system and promptly communicate discrepancies between system information and actual production-floor status. Participate in daily production meetings and provide concise updates regarding critical orders, overdue work, bottlenecks, anticipated delays, and required follow-up actions. Maintain and communicate priority or hot-job lists as directed by Operations leadership and ensure affected production areas understand current priorities. Follow priority jobs through completion rather than relying solely on ERP status, maintaining accountability for follow-up until identified issues have been resolved or appropriately escalated. Assist with coordinating rework, replacement orders, customer emergencies, and other unplanned production requirements to minimize disruption to committed customer schedules. Collaborate with Shipping to identify completed priority orders and ensure they are staged, packaged, and shipped in accordance with customer requirements and committed delivery dates. Support production scheduling activities by providing Operations leadership with real-time information regarding job progress, bottlenecks, workload, and production-floor conditions. Identify recurring causes of production delays and communicate opportunities for improving workflow, lead times, work-in-process, and on-time delivery performance. Drive a sense of urgency, follow-through, and accountability around customer due dates while ensuring that production priorities never compromise PEI’s quality, safety, or compliance requirements. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to production flow, lead-time reduction, work-in-process management, scheduling effectiveness, and on-time delivery. Perform other related duties as assigned to support production and business needs. Work Experience & Skills Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate or bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred. Experience 2–3+ years of production expediting, production coordination, scheduling, materials coordination, manufacturing operations, or similar experience preferred. Experience working directly within a manufacturing environment and coordinating work across multiple production departments or processes strongly preferred. Experience in a job-shop, make-to-order, metalworking, chemical processing, or other high-mix manufacturing environment strongly preferred. Skills / Knowledge Strong ability to prioritize and follow multiple production orders simultaneously in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Ability to interpret work orders, routings, due dates, lead times, manufacturing sequences, and production priorities. Strong understanding of production workflow and the relationship between individual manufacturing operations and customer delivery requirements. Strong ERP/MRP and Microsoft Excel skills; experience with Acumatica or similar manufacturing ERP systems preferred. Ability to compare ERP information with actual production-floor conditions and identify discrepancies requiring action. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with production employees, supervisors, management, and cross-functional departments. Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment with the ability to recognize issues, determine appropriate next steps, and escalating concerns quickly when necessary. Ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to changing customer requirements, equipment issues, material constraints, quality concerns, and other production disruptions. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Work environment: On-site office/manufacturing environment with significant daily interaction and presence on the production floor. Physical or operational requirements: Frequent walking and standing throughout manufacturing areas to monitor production activity and job status; periodic sitting and computer use; ability to communicate effectively in an active production environment; occasional lifting of production paperwork, samples, or materials up to approximately 25 pounds. Required PPE must be worn when entering designated manufacturing areas.
