What Would You Do as a Sanitation Equipment Operator

As a Full-Time Sanitation Equipment Operator with the City of Johnson City, you will engage in challenging semi-skilled work that involves operating residential, commercial, and recycling sanitation equipment. This role requires you to efficiently load and unload collected materials while ensuring the safe operation of specialized maintenance and construction equipment. • Thorough knowledge of the traffic laws and other regulations governing automotive equipment operation; thorough knowledge of the operating and repair characteristics of heavy automotive and similar public works equipment; thorough knowledge of the component parts

• including location and layout of streets and alleyways; ability to service various types of equipment and to make minor running repairs; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions and to prepare required reports; skill in the operation of moderately complex equipment; physical strength and agility sufficient to operate equipment in occasionally adverse weather conditions; manual dexterity required to operate machinery.
• Acceptable Experience and Training: Completion of high school diploma or GED is desirable; some experience in the operation and routine maintenance of trucks
• specialized automotive equipment or related automotive equipment; any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge skills and abilities is acceptable.
