Veterinary Extern - General Practice

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although each NVA hospital is unique, they all share a commitment to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners. Eligibility Externships at Alta Mesa Animal Hospital are designed for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students. Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Responsibilities Gather patient histories, perform physical exams, and create treatment plans. Participate in diagnostics, dentistry services, and medical management of patients. Observe, assist or perform surgical procedures under supervision. Develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
